Ever considered a career in the Gaming Industry?

Most of us are huge fans, collectors, and players of video games, but have any of you ever worked in the gaming industry before? Or are highly considering it? Anything from doing beta testing to advertising to 3D modelling, with the exception of selling video games at Gamestop or something.

I have recently been very into the idea of striving for a career in the gaming industry, I studied sound engineering in school and became increasingly interested in some day doing post production and sound design for TV/Movies and video games. Unfortunately it's a very difficult niche to crack into. It's very hard with little experience to send in demo reels and portfolios without even getting so much as a call back. I work in radio now, doing some sound engineering there, but it provides little experience for the gaming industry. I hope one day I can wedge myself into the industry and be creating the sound effects for games that we all love so much...and getting paid for it!

How about you guys? Is there a specific field you'd like to work in? What about a specific genre or company, or even game you'd like to work on?

Actually, I'm currently studding to become a Concept Artist/Graphic Designer for a video game company. So, I may just be the one to design the next big character!

I either want to develop my own games or work for another company as a programmer, or both.

I've made some simple games in an easy-to-use language called Blitz Basic. I'm taking computer science in college.

I wouldn't want to make games but I'd enjoy working as a tester or some sort of other position. I'd love to run my own shop selling games or an arcade. running a small publisher would be cool

I want to write games. More so than drawing or actually coding them in, I'd like to make the storylines and what everyone says. I'd love to draw up the concepts for what everything looks like though and I've a lot of ideas for gameplay. I'm just not that much of a programmer.

I've made a few RPG Maker games, worked in flash some, and gamemaker. I've made mods for some PC games. Nothing really major, except maybe Bonerquest. I made a full game that combined western and eastern RPG elements, in a parody of Dragon Warrior. I need to re-balance it and fix a few bugs, but otherwise the game is done and playable. I met someone online to do the music and I feel he did a great job with it.

I wrote up a treatment for a shmup featuring animals that was a homage to animal platformers of the 90s, gradius, and cave. I talked to some guys about forming a team and making it, if anyone here knows how to program things together I'm ready to roll on this thing. Just a simple flash game to get a foot in the door.

I look all the time for jobs, but everything wants me to be local. So I'm going to do the podcast and website thing pretty soon.

I can draw really good and I thought about character design,but I don't think it will happen,testing games would be more fun. I always wanted to own an arcade,but It would never happen since the scene is dead in America.
