Japan Xbox 360 Shooter Checklist
Re: Japan Xbox 360 Shooter Checklist
Here's a question will soft modding a 360 get around the region coding so you can just import the game?

Re: Japan Xbox 360 Shooter Checklist
Im pretty sure that softmodding will not allow a region bypass. There is however a new mod chip that may allow a region switch of sorts. http://www.cygnos360.com/news.htm
Re: Japan Xbox 360 Shooter Checklist
It's only possible to get a key (and thus downgrade and change the region code) on Xenon chips, which is essentially any Xbox before an HDMI port was included. And even then, it wouldn't be possible (or safe, at least) to go Live with the modified region code, so there'd be no way to easily access content downloads, leaderboards, gamerscore, etc. Until someone figures out a way to modify Xbox 360 with complete stealth (without switching between a "safe" NAND and a non-safe one), a reliable region switch won't be possible.

Maybe I can format this a bit and publish it on the main part of the site.
If anyone wants to write up brief descriptions for some games, lemme know!

Unless you dont care about the online aspect and just want to play the games by yourselfcrux wrote:It's only possible to get a key (and thus downgrade and change the region code) on Xenon chips, which is essentially any Xbox before an HDMI port was included. Saw on the shmups forum that in a fiscal report Cave mentioned Espgaluda II as an planned release for the future, no platform was specified but it's a safe bet that it'll be a 360 port;

Just got a JP 360, so this is great news, I hope it pans out - Mushi Futari, Ketsui & Espgaluda II make it more than worth the price of importing a JP unit.

Not to sound like a pompous ass with a ton of cash, but after you've spent a bunch of time researching chips, ordering your chip, risking your machine installing your chip, then avoiding Xbox Live because of the chip, just buying a Japanese 360 arcade unit would save you the headaches.crux wrote:It's only possible to get a key (and thus downgrade and change the region code) on Xenon chips, which is essentially any Xbox before an HDMI port was included. Unless you're planning on playing burns; then buying a Japanese unit wouldn't help you avoid the chip.
I took the plunge, and it was one of the best things I've spent my money on (game wise) in a long time. I haven't been this excited about video games since the Dreamcast years...both of them.
Re: Japan Xbox 360 Shooter Checklist
Modding Xbox 360's is very risky, no matter what people may tell you. Having two consoles, one for each region, just makes things safer and easier to play games from both regions legitimately and problem free. I just got Death Smiles finally, and the game is one of the finest horizontal shooters I've ever played. I highly recommend it to anyone who gets a Japanese Xbox 360.
