Difference between Persona 2 titles?
Difference between Persona 2 titles?
I know that there were 2 released, and that Innocent Sin can be played with a translation patch. Is there an order to these games? Does Eternal Punishment come first or does it not matter?

They are set in an alternate world each. The best way to play them as far as I know is playing the untranslated one first and then Innocent Sin since the deja vú feeling of the second game makes less sense if played in inverse order.

The untranslated one IS Innocent Sin.General_Norris wrote:They are set in an alternate world each. The best way to play them as far as I know is playing the untranslated one first and then Innocent Sin since the deja vú feeling of the second game makes less sense if played in inverse order.
Play Innocent Sin, then play Eternal Punishment.

I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but from what I've read the US release of Persona 2 has heavily edited for some reason. The fan translated version was is a unedited version with bonus material and alternate storyline.

Actually they're separate games, both released as Persona 2, like a dual title. They take place in alternate dimensions or something. I don't know if the US version of Eternal Punishment was censored so much as just got a terrible translation. Go figure.corn619 wrote:I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but from what I've read the US release of Persona 2 has heavily edited for some reason. US Persona 1 (PSX) got heavily changed during localization. I'm talking about turning one of the characters into a black guy type of crazy changes. It's kind of amazing to see how far Atlus USA has come as a company since then.
US Persona 2 EP, as far as I know, only got minor edits. Probably a bit more heavy handed than Atlus might do today, but certainly no worse than, say, the Final Fantasy VI translation.
In terms of the storyline, it starts with Persona 2 Innocent Sin. The end is not exactly a happy one, so the main character elects to roll back time to the beginning of the game. This is now Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. A lot of the gross details are similar, but the details are changed. For example, both have the Joker, but in one he grants wishes, while in the other he's a serial killer.

Yeah, I remember back then, we all called Atlus "The 4Kids of RPGs".MrPopo wrote:US Persona 1 (PSX) got heavily changed during localization.
