Snes extension port
On the model 1 Snes they have some sort of extension port at the bottom. Does anyone know what that was used for? I know on the super famicon they all sorts of assesories like a flopy drive, but did anything come out to NA that uses it?

Re: Snes extension port
I don't think peripherals that use that port were ever released. similarly, the nes has a port on the bottom that is quite useless.
Re: Snes extension port
That expansion port was going to be used for the PlayStation! There is great info about that failed business deal on wikipedia.

Yeah I noticed it's not the only console to come out in America with a never-used extension port. The Sega Master System, NES, and the N64 all had that feature and in the case of the Master System, I'm not sure anyone can even say what it was supposed to be there for in the first place!
Currently owned; Colecovision, Master System, TG-16/CD, SNES, Genesis/CD Mk1/32X, Saturn, Dreamcast, Jaguar/CD, Xbox, Wii, and PS3!!!
Dreamcast Tracker; 209 of 248 NTSC-U games collected.

Also, if anyone has the case art for Popful Mail (Sega CD), I'd like to speak with you!

Re: Snes extension port
Yeah, it's amazing all these consoles had extension ports that were never utilized with peripherals/accessories in US. Although, some ext. ports were utilized in Japan with some of the older consoles...Segatari2002 wrote:Yeah I noticed it's not the only console to come out in America with a never-used extension port. Re: Snes extension port
Wasn't the SNES expansion port also used for some kind of multiplayer device in Japan? SattleView or something like that?
Re: Snes extension port
The Satellaview, basically a dish that let you download Satela games to play, like some of the Fire Emblem series.
Re: Snes extension port
That's what it was. I was too lazy to look it up then, partially because I knew some one here would know of the top of their head.
