Do you think Sony will ever pull ahead this generation?

Yep the ps3 is a very nice machine unlike the 360 without built in wifi and its regular break downs. Wii is nice but I've had trouble with them to but this was partly my fault for using 3rd party PSU and letting the system get zapped during a storm. Nintendo support is amazing. Sony needs to work on price and most importantly on software!!!! they need games and badly. They can still pull ahead I think this generation will last longer than previous may have to thanks to the economy (things are gonna suck for this industry in 2010 I hear in terms of console sales) I think new systems in 2012 and beyond makes sense so plenty of time

I never understand this argument. According to Wikipedia, Sony has 155 exclusives, MS has 170. Sony, I believe, even has more exclusives that can be purchased in the store (as opposed to online exclusives).

Also, Sony exclusives collectively rank about 5-10 percentage points on metacritic over those on the 360 (excluding what can also be played on the PC).

FYI, some data on quality PS3 vs 360 - percent of quality/crap: http://www.edge-online.com/features/gam ... s3-quality

I don't mean to get all defensive about my beloved console - but it does have the games - just not the audience.

The PS3 will never catch up to the 360 or Wii. Its way too late in the game and people already have there impressions of each console. While the PS3 has its share of problems price and BC being the top ones, its a far better console "in terms of build quality" than the 360. I like the PS3s exclusives library better as well. I'm not a Halo fan in the least. I'm on my 3rd 360 and was on my 1st PS3 until last month until I traded it in for a 60GB. Its a shame Sony went with Bluray as its really killing them in production costs. If they used standard DVD like the 360 and had BC for the most popular console in the world, they would most likely be closer to 360 or even in 2nd place right now.

Guess what? The general public doesn't seem to care. My friend just toasted his 4th. Still no regrets on his end.

I guess Ack and I are spiteful folks that expect a system to work when you throw a couple hundred bucks at it :)

Of course, I've never been burned before (still using my launch PS2); maybe I'd be a little more understanding of the 360's hardware woes if I had a bad experience before.

If Sony had been using regular DVDs instead of Blu-Rays, then there would have been little to nothing to separate it from the 360 or Wii in the beginning.

Sony has the games, it's just about lowering the price of the console so people can afford these great games. I'm looking forward to several upcoming games (Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, MAG, God of War III, White Knight Chronicles, Final Fantasy XIII, Grand Turismo 5, The Last Guardian), but my wallet is still burning from the cost of the system itself.

If they start offering better deals or work on backwards compatibility, it can only help their situation.

You know what's funny? I feel the same way, just switch up PS2 and 360. Went through 4 PS2's before I said F it, still on my first 360(knock on wood).

I guess at least I can give Microsoft credit that they extended the warranty on their faulty product, Sony had to get sued before they would admit there was a problem.

On the subject of 360 RRoDs... I just went to a friends house two days ago to play some BlazBlue (he has a Japanese 360, and was able to get BlazBlue a few days early), and it Red Ringed not 15 minutes after I got there. Really sucks for him, because he can't even send the shit off to Microsoft - he either has to find some God of the Machine who can do it, or buy another one. Fun times.

It was a Jasper model, by the way. So that makes three Jasper models I've personally seen die. Don't lemme near your 360 - I must have bad mojo following me around.

I think it depends on what the new xbox is going to be like. PS3 could easily last until 2015. Maybe longer. It'll be cheaper then, with a wider library then whatever Microsoft chooses to put out. If the new xbox is priced to compete and with a good starting lineup, it could crush the ps3. If microsoft doesn't get their act together on the third console, it'll give the ps3 a leg up.

I really wanted a PS3 but the 360 price tag was just too tempting. (And SF4 was right around the corner at the time) The Jasper was also new so it seemed safe enough. After owning it for a while now I am pretty satisfied with my decision.

It looks like the 360 is the best console to own if you like RPGs and that honestly surprises the hell out of me. The PS2 seemed like a new rpg came out every week, but I think the PS3 only has 2 as of now. I am sure the PS3 will catch up though. When Square started giving 360 support I was pretty shocked, and FF13 on the 360 was even more shocking. Of course I don't have time for RPGs anymore so this really doesn't matter to me. Tekken 6 is another Sony only thing that MS came in and stole that surprised me.

Of course the exclusives on PS3 look great and I plan on buying one when the price is right. Whenever that may be......... Seriously Sony needs to do something about the price. I would have gladly bought one over a 360, but for a budget minded gamer like myself I just couldn't justify paying double when mostly everything I wanted to play could be had for less.

I also still hold a grudge against Sony for shutting down Lik Sang.
