Roms vs VC
Re: Roms vs VC
Pretty quick here the original experiences will no longer be replicable. This has a lot to do with how TVs are being manufactured now, along with advancements in technology. For example, if you have an LCD TV you'll find that Duck Hunt won't work with it. It's weird to think about.

I'm sure that us gamers could invest into a company of our own that manufactures CRT's and other outdated/disappearing tech someday.Dylan wrote:Pretty quick here the original experiences will no longer be replicable. That's an interesting idea, especially considering how active the retro scene is.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:I'm sure that us gamers could invest into a company of our own that manufactures CRT's and other outdated/disappearing tech someday.

Re: Roms vs VC
well Im pretty sure modern tv companies are not gonna get rid of composite or s video. Unless you are wanting to play a system before the nes I am pretty sure it will be aviable as long as you have the right cables. this is kinda going off topic so I will say stick to the original consoles and unfilitered emulators do look like crap some times.

Actually Samsung and a few other companies are beginning to manufacture sets with only 2 Component and 2 HDMI inputs usually with one Component input doubling as a A/V jack with horrible results.Mr.White555 wrote:well Im pretty sure modern tv companies are not gonna get rid of composite or s video. Re: Roms vs VC
The picture depends on the video connection (RF, composite, S-video, etc.) and graphics filters. If you're running emulators on an X-Box or PC, they should look the exact same as on the VC or original console. In fact, they are clearer. To be honest, even the Wii emulators are clearer than the original console. Look at my console list in my signature. I've actually had most of them hooked up via s-video to my TV, and also the Wii hooked up via D-link (Japanese component). The emulated versions easily beat out the original consoles. Ironically, I did compare Super Metroid. Substantial difference in favour of emulators over the original console. As for the VC, it also looks better than the original console because it's running off an HD (well, 480i) component connection. The VC also looks better.kingmohd84 wrote:Now this VC thing matches what I have in mind and I think it is great, I would love to see screens from original snes screen compared to ROMs or VC
Today, I just compared F-Zero on an emulator on the Wii and on the VC. It's the opposite of what I said. The emulator blurs the lines to get rid of the jagged edges and the VC looks clear as day. BUT THEN, I turned OFF the filter. Guess what? Looks the same as on the VC.
So, to the OP, I'd advise turning off the filters on your emulator if you like the clearest picture possible.

Re: Roms vs VC
so I was right?
I do not like the extra smoothing that changes the look of the game, but on Metroid I hardly noticed it.
Second thing I am using my Wii to do this, so I think I am comparing fairly.
I do not think I can have video filters on the Wii's emulator the Snes9x and others.
I am against changing the original look, but this time i find it to be a success

Sort of maybe perhaps you were.kingmohd84 wrote:so I was right?
If the default settings on your emulator were set to filter, then there definitely would be a big difference. The game running on the emulator would have smooth, but fuzzy, graphics UNLESS the filter is turned off. The game emulated through the VC (which does indeed use emulators, fyi) will appear sharp, but have jagged lines.
I think after playing for a few minutes, you get used to it and don't really notice anymore. Again, some people like it but some, like yourself, do not.I do not like the extra smoothing that changes the look of the game, but on Metroid I hardly noticed it.

Re: Roms vs VC
If all it's doing is blurring, it's a crappy video filter. A good video filter will interpolate in between the pixels to actually smooth it out. Not blur, but smooth. See the pics I posted for reference.
I dunno about Snes9x but ZSnes has excellent video filters. Try HQ2x and see if you like it.
