Game Boy not so Advanced
Re: Game Boy not so Advanced
I think the GBA is great because back in the day I had a Genesis and missed out on the SNES,its a great way to discover a lot of great titles.
Systems: Sega Dreamcast(x2), Sega Genesis(x2), Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Genmobile (portable Genesis), FC Twin, PSX, PS2(x2), GBA, SP, Xbox 360, N64, Showcase Arcade

You just haven't been playing the right games then. GBA has a lot of trash, so you have to do some homework to find the good stuff, but the first year was actually one of the weakest for the platform. Really, from year 2 onward, there was a new stellar game about once or twice a month right up until the DS came out.

It's just like the PS and DC at the end of the life cycle.I don't have that many games for it,but I think I got a solid collection.I don't play it that much unless I go on a long trip, but its fun when I do play it.Mozgus wrote:You just haven't been playing the right games then. List of GBA games I own:
Gunstar Super Heroes
Donkey Kong Country 2
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island
Wario Land 4
Sonic Advance 3
Super Mario Advance

Warioland 4 is a fantastic platformer that's just as creative (if a little more difficult) than any of the Mario platformers (except perhaps the perfection that was SMB3). Drill Dozer was also a very creative platformer. And the GBA has the best remake of Double Dragon ever.
My primary gripes with the GBA are how uncomfortable the SP is to hold for long periods of time (especially when trying to use the R and L buttons) and how several companies (especially Konami) kept relying on the older GB audio hardware too heavily and didn't properly utilize the new audio hardware. Golden Sun and the Metroid games on GBA are proof the GBA can put out some good stuff. Why Konami couldn't, I've no idea.

The GBA is amazing. It was my first handheld (in hindsight I really should have got an handheld sooner, but to be honest the GBA was a huge leap in quality over the previous options).
I want to reiterate some things already mentioned in the thread:
1. The GBA "Tactics Ogre" game is absolutely amazing (probably my favorite game on the platform). Zone of the Enders is also nice but doesn't even come close (and FFTA is IMO also nice, I know some don't like it much, but it doesn't come close to the brilliance of TO at all).
2. Kuru Kuru Kururin is a good game (probably not for everyone). Racket mentioned it in the Hidden Gems article. I think the first has an English version, it is the sequel, also on GBA, that didn't get localized (and while I haven't tried yet, is probably worth playing and not hard to play despite the language barrier).
3. Wario Land 4 is an amazing game as well, worth playing.
4. Karnaaj Rally is great, and as far as I see it a great homage to a PC game called Death Rally down to the last race being a 1 on 1 IIRC (for those that remember Death Rally, it had a cameo from Duke Nukem).
I played Car Battler Joe and enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it is a great game. I find it interesting that it reminded me somewhat of Privateer (PC game) due to the type of missions and being able to salvage stuff from foes to sell.
And I want to add:
a) The solar sensor Boktai games, while not for everyone, are really good, the "gimmick" is interesting, and you should see if you can try them to see if you like them. They're rather cheap.
b) Mentioned several times in these boards, Ninja Five-0 / Ninja Cop is amazing old school ninja action.
c) The 2d Castlevanias (like the few Metroid ones also available) in the system are good examples of this type of game. I haven't had a chance yet to play the "original" Symphony of the Night, but the GBA games I played really haven't disappointed so far.

hmmm no one mentioned WARIO WARE INC!!!! I remeber that game coming out around the same time as the SP. That game RULES! I beat the game with 100%. I still play it ever once in a while. All teh sequels were more or less rehashes of this game with a gimiick, (touch screen, gyro sensor, wii mote).
Wario land 4 is a classic if not the definitive GBA first party platformer.
Duke Nukem Advanced was really good. it was no Duke nukem 3d but fun nonetheless.
Kingdom Hearts chains of memories is fantastic. I only wished it wasnt card based but hey it worked
Kirby nightmare in dreamland was also great if not the greatest kirby game( Orginally it was kirbys adventure which was also fantastic but this version is better). More than just a normal port . I mean you can play as meta knight! who doesn't want that!
Mario and Luigi superstar saga. The siritual sucessor to Mario RPG, do I need to say more?
If I am not mistaken all of these games game out after the first year. So for me the system got better towards the end. And yes there was a whole lot of crap games too. Unfortunatly I own alot of them.
