Happy birthday Walkman!

Post by Mod_Man_Extreme »

Sony's Walkman turns 30 this week!

BBC News did a special on their site about a kid who carried around an original 79' model for all of last week.

Article:

Incidentally this kid is a fucking retard by the end of the article as well.

I don't think he's that stupid, but he's definitely not electronics-oriented.

I wish someone would tell people reviewing electronics that "portable" != "pocket-sized". Sucks to read the same thing over and over in these articles.

I remember having a cheap knock off walkman growing up, that thing got some heavy duty use back in the day, I had a little pouch for it with like 4 tapes and that's all I used to listen to even when at home, I used to put a tape on when I was in my room. Just sit there listening to music in my own world staring at the ceiling. Awesome times.

Did anyone else press the fast forward and play buttons at the same time to listen to it chipmunk style or push the play button further in to slow the music down?

I had a walkman in jr high and high school (couple years ago) I just bough my first mp3/ipod (classic 120gig) a month ago! I started with a walkman cassette then moved to cd both lasted a very long time (not knock offs) and worked great but I will say the ipod is far superior. Wonder how long before people are nastalgic for ipods....

@Niode I used to screw with my tapes all the time.

@ThatCrazyGu I dunno even a five year old knows that there's two sides to a cassette.

Coincidence, I just saw Walkmans FOR SALE in a CVS today. They were behind glass too, lol.
