MDK 2
MDK 2
I've had this game for ages and finally tonight i decided to play it, damn is it hard. Graphics are still good, the art style is really cool, and it's really funny. Anyone have some thoughts on this game?

Re: MDK 2
Actually, it is the first initial of each of the main characters. Which version are you playing? The PS 2 version is easier. The original Dreamcast version is brutal, especially the last boss. I think a big part of the difficulty was the controls. It's like they were designed for a PC rather than a console
Keep on playing though, the game is so full of memorable moments and every checkpoint is permanently saved(at least on the Dreamcast version I played). So you can jump back to any part of the game at any time, meaning you never have to play through the more frustrating parts again and can go back to the fun ones any time you choose to pick up the game again.
The original MDK wasn't as hard, so I wonder sometimes why MDK 2 turned out so difficult. They switched developers to Bioware and they decided to crank up the difficulty. Like I said though, it's worth it. Hilarious dialogue, cutscenes and constantly changing gameplay elements(All three characters have a distinct style of gameplay they bring to the game). MDK 2 was a game that never got boring for me and I considered it an underappreciated classic that is just marred by some cumbersome controls and a level of difficulty that was a little higher than necessary.

Was actually the second Dreamcast game I bought.
I thought it was pretty cool, but the puzzle elements got the best of me too much and ended up giving up on it.
I should pick it up again sometime -- seems like a really good game if you're into the genre.

Yeah, it's the Dreamcast one. So far I've only gotten up to the first boss, but there is something about the overall style of the game that makes me want to keep playing, no matter how hard it gets.

Re: MDK 2
It's never REALLY specified what the title stands for--I remember reading an interview with Dave Perry from Shiny back in the old Ultra Game Players magazine where he made sure to talk about the ambiguity of the title. This also reminds me of how awesome the first MDK was--that game was pretty revolutionary for the time, and the sniper scope is still a really fun game mechanic and well-handled. Most of Shiny's stuff from that era was gold, like Wild 9 for the PSX, Sacrifice for the PC, and heck, even Messiah is underappreciated.

I freaking love Wild 9, and feel it never gets the attention it deserved.Funk, E wrote:Most of Shiny's stuff from that era was gold, like Wild 9 for the PSX, Sacrifice for the PC, and heck, even Messiah is underappreciated.

Messiah was really fun, wish i still had it, i might be wrong but wasn't there supposed to be a Dreamcast port of it and it got canceled?

Re: MDK 2
I've never played either of the games, but I did stumble upon this rather extensive making of MDK which was recently published.
