Hello,
I am new to the forums and I have recently started expanding my Dreamcast collection. I've recently purchased some import fighters that are complete with manuals, CD cases, and spine cards. On the other hand, all of my domestic games have no cases and some have no manuals. An extreme of this is all of my PS1/PS2 games are disc placed in slim cd cases and I have also thought of placing these in DVD cases as well.
I am contemplating whether or not to go ahead with this...
Your thoughts and comments are appreaciated.
Thanks
Your thoughts on swaping CD cases to DVD cases
Re: Your thoughts on swaping CD cases to DVD cases
ok- what you want to do is listen to me word for word. Do exactly like i'm doing so that your collection looks the same way mine does because mine is the right way to do things. Also- i have a few pointers for the rest of your life. heh. kidding.
Do what you feel man.
I hate looking at cd cases vs dvd cases only because i have no where near the amount of cd cases that i do dvd. That said- printing and dropping artwork in sleaves for a decent sized collection is like a days worth of effort (not to mention finding/making all the artwork) and you have to constantly update it as everything is custom. A lot of work all round.
but... the payoff is a very nice looking collection. You gotta make the call.
How much is your time worth vs what you get out of it.
I've wanted to do it for a while, but just haven't. When i get some time off i just don't think to work on this. I'd rather game a little or hang out with friends. If i had some kinda reason... like if i became super famous and mtv cribs was coming by I think i might get off my ass to do it. I'd also probably yell at the camera "shit is custom" and be very animated about it to let everyone know how custom it got.

Re: Your thoughts on swaping CD cases to DVD cases
Yeah, this has basically been my thought process as well. As of right know, none of my PS2/PS1 games are in their original cases, all of them are in slim memorex jewel cases. My thought process has always been this, I would rather enjoy playing the game than sitting down and admiring the art work. I don't know why, but I want my dreamcast collection to be complete.nickfil wrote:ok- what you want to do is listen to me word for word. Re: Your thoughts on swaping CD cases to DVD cases
So I personally moved all my jewel cases into DVD cases. I get all my artwork off the Cover Project, but it means I have several unlabeled cases on my shelves, due to lack of artwork (this is especially bad on the Turbo games). I decided to do it for consistency's sake; everything looks very nice on the shelf.
The biggest thing I would recommend is that you either have all your stuff for a platform in the jewel cases or in the DVD cases; don't mix and match.

Remember also that DVD cases are more resilient. Jewel cases crack more easily and scratches are very apparent, even if they don't break.

Re: Your thoughts on swaping CD cases to DVD cases
I put every CD based game into a DVD case (and every cartridge in a Universal Game Case). And if the Cover Project doesn't have it, make your own. Just google the name of the game or go to mobygames.com, they have scans of almost any game that I was trying to find. Use the cover project's templates as a base, and copy+paste your picture onto it, resize it and what-not. And there you have it, a perfectly good game cover. I did it using Paint, and they turned out great!
Intellivision, Atari 2600, Jaguar, NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, Sega Master System, Genesis, 32x, CD, Saturn, DC, PSOne, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, GB, Game Gear, Sega Nomad, Virtual Boy, GBA, DS, PSP.

So, it looks like I'm going to proceed with this project. My import copies of Soul Caliber and Capcom vs Snk 2 arrived today with cracked cases, so much for keeping my DC collection original. Hopefully, I will have some case transfers finished by the end of the week.

The funny thing is, the Japanese jewel cases vary in width in order to accommodate the user manual.

I didn't know that, usually US games that had large manuals like SimCity 2000 on PS1 used a double disc case to contain the larger manuals.Pookie wrote:Thanks for the tip, I'm thinking about purchasing those white dvd cases.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:K-Mart sells 10 count packs of CD cases for $2
