New Xbox coming or something?

You know Ryan, with a little bit of research, you could've found the answer for yourself.

You can not look at the current console situation in comparison with previous generations due to the lengthening of the development cycle for games and the disparity in the hardware capabilities between the three major consoles. This cycle will problably last slightly longer as the "current gen" cycle than the usual 5-6 years consoles in the past have had.
Im not going to get into a fight of "relevance" of a video game system, but just because PS2 will have a 10 year lifespan doesnt mean that it wasnt a "last-gen" console after 5-6 years.

Heh. Obviously you cared enough to write a wall of text in reply.Breetai wrote:BTW, what does being a system administrator have to do with business marketing within the game industry? Nobody cares.

A wall of text referring to your sysadmin job? I must have missed that. I only saw two sentences.elvis wrote:Heh. Jeez. Friendly crowd in this thread. Community++.
Long story short: there's no new console due from either Microsoft or Sony for a long time (ignoring minor revisions, slim line versions of existing consoles, etc).
Anyone care to disagree with *that*?

That's just the problem - if the games I want on the 360 came to the PS3, it'd be no problem. But they don't. They just stay on the 360, and they just stay in Japan.Breetai wrote:That sucks. Get a PS3.
These are a few of those games.

Quirky Japanese Shmups and Rail-Shooters were two of the bigger contributors to my love of the Saturn and Dreamcast (The biggest being fighters, but shooters were still up there).

Re: New Xbox coming or something?
I still don't understand why so many titles are hitting XBox 360 as region-locked.
Battle Fantasia was one that had me totally stumped. It's on PS3 region free. Yet the same title hit 360 as region locked! Why?! Is it Microsoft pushing the trend? Or something else?
Outside of that, all these Japanese shooters have zero chance (OK, maybe not zero - I should watch the use of absolutes in this thread, given past experience - I choose "slim chance" instead) of ever seeing a publisher in the west. What's the point of region locking them? All they're doing is limiting sales.

For all of you debating on a game system being relevant you should all just shut up. You are on a retro game site remember. None of us could care less if systems are old and outdated. If you do, you shouldn't be on this site.
Older. Not wiser.

Nope. Your job sure has come in handy in figuring that out! (couldn't help myself...)elvis wrote:Long story short: there's no new console due from either Microsoft or Sony for a long time (ignoring minor revisions, slim line versions of existing consoles, etc).
