Question For The U.S. Racketboy'ers who own Japanese Systems
Do you use a step-down converter (110V/60 -> 100V/50), or do you just plug it into the wall?
Do you NEED a step-down converter?
Thanks!

I own several Japanese systems and live in US and just plug them into wall.. You can get a converter to be on safe side but not necessary...

Given that the power adaptor of almost any console is simply an AC to DC converter frequency doesn't matter at all.

I have a Japanese Wii and I just plug it right into the wall, no adapter needed. I think the Japanese run on an NTSC power connection so I guess you should not need an adapter for any system from there.

LMAO, Epic electricy faillaneyj wrote: I think the Japanese run on an NTSC power connection
NTSC is a video signal standard. This has nothing to do with the power grid. The important data here is voltage and frequency.
Strictly speaking, given that the difference between the US and Japan is only of 10 volts most things would work fine without an adapater. However they would run faster/slower as you are over/under clocking the CPU.

Re: Question For The U.S. Racketboy'ers who own Japanese Systems
The only power issue I have is with a bootleg Famicom I own. I've had to buy 2 or 3 different adapters in order to get it to power on without the system heating up like crazy.
Re: Question For The U.S. Racketboy'ers who own Japanese Systems
Because Japan and the US use similar power delivery (only 10hz and 10 volts difference in most places) and a similar plug design many Japanese power supply units are designed to handle both. Typically you need to check the PSU and see whether it is flexible enough to accommodate and, if not, try to find a multi-power adapter.
