You know them, FOX ONLY, NO ITEMS, FINAL DESTINATION! Those are not the guys who say "Um, we should ban Akuma because he's too powerful" but the guys who think insulting a rival in a tourney is fine because it may give them an edge. Those are the guys measure their e-penis by how "hardcore" they are. They are, in MTG terms, Spikes without any morality, just e-penis.
Today I discovered that a good deal of Spanish TF2 clans ban the Pyro, the Engineer and the Spy altogether for no reason. Also half of the Scout's weapons. The reasoning? None, to be frank, something along the lines of "Pyro takes no skill", "The sentrys are overpowered" and "I can't see the Spy and they are too good in small games" with a bit of "Dude, if they hit me with a baseball I can't move, that has no skill". Of course they also ban every Critical Hit making some weapons useless because they take no skill.
Why is some people that way), I mean, they are not even competitive they are just bratty and ego-filled. Can't they accept some fun?

Because they want to feel better about themselves, but they really aren't any good at the game. I once met a UT player that was amazing at the Tournament mods, but he'd get reamed any time he played a normal game. I also met a COD4 player who only played on Hardcore mode. Both talked constant shit. The way to beat them best? Joke weapons or something they never see coming.
The UT guy we beat down with shield guns.
The COD4 guy I spent an evening just knifing over and over again.
Both resulted in swear storms, with the rest of us laughing at them and telling them not to be such a bitch. Good times.

Some of it, like with Smash Bros, is people who hate losing to randomness. Many matches can change based on whether or not a hammer drops, and who gets it. So I can understand where they are coming from when they turn off items. I personally think that the randomness adds to the spice of things. I like winning, but winning is not necessary for fun for me.
But when you start out-and-out banning weapons/classes in an FPS, then you need to take a closer look. I remember in the CS 1.2 days the server I played on removed the AWP, since at the time it was one-hit kills no matter what. Full body armor would not keep me from dying when my little toe was nailed by the AWP. So it was banned on my server, and I never missed it. The snipers switched to the Scout, which taught you that you need to properly aim, not just fire in the general direction. But the TF2 thing is just rediculous. Too many people who take winning far too seriously. If the only enjoyment you can get out of a game is when you win then professional sports would lose most of their players every season.

I do hope you mean "ridiculous". ; )MrPopo wrote:But the TF2 thing is just rediculous.
I could understand stuff like, say, banning M. Bison (dictator) in Street Fighter 2 CE, because he wasn't well balanced yet, but you have to be very careful where you draw the lines when you start excluding game elements. Sometimes banning one element lets another element which was previously balanced become too powerful because the element you banned was an effective check on the second element.

But if you want to talk about the complexities of banning, take a look at Magic Extended tournaments (or whatever the hell they call it now). The entire metagame can shift based upon the prescence or absense of a single card out of thousands.

Nobody in the smash community insists on "Fox only, final destination."
Many characters are played competitively, and many stages are played besides FD.

I don't see what the big deal is, if certain classes have an alleged advantage, it doesn't matter because anyone can use them. It's not like entering a cheat code.
