Anybody Know of a Custom Magazine Publisher?
Hey, I'm looking to produce a custom magazine with a low print run. I was wondering if anybody on the site knew of anywhere that might be good?
Re: Anybody Know of a Custom Magazine Publisher?
I cant help ya there, but have always thought of putting together a small retro-game mag myself, with reviews and screenshots and stuff. Kinda pointless with all that is on the internet, but I like magazines.
Let me know if you need help in other areas or your find a publisher

If you want color glossy on magazine paper it'll be VERY expensive. You might want to consider the grayscale fanzine route as it'll be much cheaper.
Re: Anybody Know of a Custom Magazine Publisher?
Well, I'm thinking about getting into writing and publishing anthologies. One is a collection of original children's stories (i.e. fairy tales), and another is a series of horror stories in the vein of the old EC Horror comics (and I think I'd also love to do a fumetti comic adaptation).
Another idea is original comics, done in fumetti style in lieu of drawings, since I suck at art. One is for a Batman-inspired noir hero named Obsidian, an openly-gay lawyer who goes after a mob boss who controls the city as the vigilante Obsidian. His origin is that after he tried to get the mob boss arrested, they put a price on his lover's head. With his lover dead, he slips into a depression. When he snaps out, he dons the identity of Obsidian. His design is essentially a mix of The Spirit, Neo from the Matrix, Mr. One from Dark City, and the original version of REPO!'s Repo Man (photo coming soon), with a mask with a pair of cyberpunk goggles embedded in the mask.
Unlike other "superheroes", Obsidian:
* Doesn't always win
* Usually eats shit doing fancy stuff like jumping from one building from another
* Doesn't have sweet gadgets or a fancy ride. He may be a successful gay lawyer with no dependents, but he also has medical bills due to his constant battles with bad guys
* Doesn't believe himself to be a hero or a savior of sorts. He knows what he does is illegal, but he's mostly driven by grief, anger and righteous fury
And why is he gay, you ask? Cuz every other comic book hero is straight, and the ones that are gay are usually pretty standard comic book affair. The gay superheroes are just that, but Obsidian is a hero who happens to be gay, instead of just being a gay superhero.
But my stuff will probably just be self-published. It's more expensive and more work, but I also get more control and profits, not that it's about the cash.

http://www.lulu.com is great for small run books... I don't know if they do anything magazine oriented.
A sweet b/w DIY videogame fanzine would be pretty sweet though if you ever get to it...
