I recently finished Good Night Moon, The Dumb Bunnies, and I'm working on The Great Waldo Search right now. Pretty soon I'll be able to move on to more advanced stuff, like comic books.

Being an expert on both, Ack, let me bring you up to speed.

For Dune, there's the original six. Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune. Each book leads to the next, so you would want to read them in order. Then there's the newer books. They come in two trilogies. The first is the House trilogy, which is set shortly before Dune. The second is the Butlerian Jihad trilogy, which is set thousands of years prior to Dune. It describes a lot of the backstory that shapes the Dune universe. Finally, there's the most recent two books, Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune, which both are immediately after Chapterhouse: Dune. I'd recommend you start with the original six, then read the Butlerian Jihad trilogy, then Hunters and Sandworms. I personally feel the House trilogy is unnecessary and adds little to the universe. They aren't badly written, but you don't really get any information that feels like it expands the storyline.

For Star Wars, you've already started with some of the best books: The Thrawn Trilogy. Some of the other really good ones are the X-Wing series, the Hand of Thrawn Duology, and The Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy. I'd also recommend the Han Solo trilogy, Outbound Flight, Survivor's Quest, and I, Jedi. Once you've built up the backstory from those you an start in with the New Jedi Order, the Dark Nes Trilogy, and the Legacy of the Force series. In terms of figuring out the chronology you can look up the timeline on wookiepedia.

Just finished Cross of Iron. A great book that clears up some of the myths most people have about the Wehrmacht.

Perhaps a grammar check on the thread title would be in order. Just a suggestion for a thread about literature.

I would count myself as an avid reader - I am infact a writer

I'm a big poetry fan if there are any others about, Ginsberg being my currently held favourite poet (and with that, Kerouac, Cassidy and Burroughs too, although not poets but their work etc influencing me)

Books I would say I have too varied a taste, to name them all would just be throwing lists of names at you, but I see a lot of Dune fans about, I loved the first 3 books and have got God Emperor and might start reading it tonight.

I might attempt to edit this post to sound less pretentious later, but right now i've got to go find a beret to wear for our weekly pub book retrospective, I need it so I can look 'post-ironic'. I'll find out how sarcastic that sentence is when I finish my bath and get ready to go out.
