Hello
I know point and click games, and if you know anything about me as a young child I never ever finished a game I do not even think I passed 30% of any game because I thought they were all so difficult.
Any how I decided to check this scummvn and if it is good(really good by the way) and I needed a game so I downloaded the smallest in size and one that I do not know it is called Simon the Sorcerer.
It appeared to be a really good game(although graphics are antique I still find it pleasing and good?!) , but I am ashamed to say that I am finding this one difficult.
I know I can run to a tutorial but that will just kill the game because these games are all about figuring stuff out , no action to it. Its not like I can read off the tutorial where is the weak point of a boss and then fight him on it, its like I know where the weak point is and when I click there he dies, thats it.
Can any one help me on how can I go through these games?
Like hints and tips how these games work?
I briefly read in a tutorial that I had to pick a scissors and cut a sleeping dwarf beard , wear it to enter the dwarf cave that I had no idea this would be enough of a disguise to make me enter that area not to mention I had no idea I can cut the beard in the first place!
I would never figure that out on my own!

Re: Point and Click help
Thats the trouble with some point & clicks is that the solution might be somthing barely anyone would think of - Simon the Sorcerer (while being one of my all-time favourites) definetly fits this decription. Along with the Discworld games, the Simon series has some really ridiculous puzzles but I guess that comes from the lighthearted/comedic nature of both series. In games like those, I ususally just resort to clicking everything, trying to use every item with every object etc but even so there might be times I need to look at a FAQ. Generally I never have as much trouble with LucasArts point & clicks, if you haven't already got them you should definetly check out some LucasArts games (Loom, The Dig, Sam & Max, Day of the Tentacle etc) - also, try Beneath a Steel Sky, you can get it for free from the ScummVM site.
Re: Point and Click help
The Dig is my personal favorite game.
There are lots of point-and-click games out there, and some are better than others. The best games have at least some kind of internal logic that you have to try and grab on to--the worst are simply nonsensical or cruel in their puzzles. You've really gotta wrack your brain sometimes.

Yeah, sometimes you just have to read the mind of the game developer, or try every permutation of items on each other. That really is the weakness of the genre, and probably what caused its downfall.
Basically, I just play until I get stuck. Then I give it a rest, let my brain do its thing, and come back to it. If I still can't get anywhere, I'll check a faq for that one puzzle only. Then I'm on my own again. The point of the game is having fun, and it's no fun when you're stuck so why agonize over it?
BTW, if you only play one game on ScummVM it should be The Secret of Monkey Island.

Re: Point and Click help
I grew up with pc point and clicks. I've beaten all of the Monkey Island games so many times I've lost track.
Full Throttle, The Dig and Day of the Tentacle are some other realy good PnCs.
