That game's hype and surrounding atmosphere was MASSIVE, it was the first time that guys like me who had never (at the time) owned a Genesis or a Dreamcast to actually own a Sonic game on our machines instead of just getting our minds blown in little snippets at a friends house or at the store demo. Speaking of demos I must have spent hours playing that one little ten minute demo at the Wal-Mart by my house, and Nintendo themselves for the first and one of only two other times (Mario Kart & Metroid Prime) released an actual playable demo disc for the occasion. To those of us who hadn't ever had the chance to truly enjoy a Sonic game or any other Sega title that moment in Gamecube history defined the early life of the console.

Games I believe should make the cut are the games that shook up the scene and were exemplary titles that truly gave the Gamecube it's spot in history as the last 'Gamers only' console without any bells and whistles such as:

Sonic Games
Zelda Four Swords
Luigi's Mansion
Animal Crossing
Donkey Konga
Resident Evil
Gameboy Player (As the first console to truly get portable gaming at home right)
Super Mario Sunshine
Eternal Darkness
Metroid Prime Series
Custom Robo
Chibi Robo
Pikmin
The evolution of the Mario Sports Series
Wave Race Blue Storm
Ikaruga (Most surprising release)
Viewtiful Joe Series
Starfox Series (As it evolved from action with a loose story to a full blown action-adventure series)
The first system to ever see successful re-releases of older titles in their original graphical format (Sonic Mega Collection, Zelda Compilations, Star Wars Arcade etc...)
I totally agree Gamecube had tons of classic titles and was filled with variety to define the console.. 8)

What about the Super Gameboy?

When I looked over your list, Fast, the only thing I saw missing was Tales of Symphonia, both because it's one of the few RPGs on the system and because it made the Tales name gain a large amount of recognition that it didn't have during the Playstation era.

Uh, dude? The Gamecube's Game Boy player may have gotten it right, but even if it did just add "a border and an incredibly small palette," don't ever dump on the Super Game Boy. That puppy was one of the first things I got for my SNES, and it is one of the few things that I still have to this day, a decade and a half later. I spent years with that being the only way I could play Game Boy games after my original GB died. I beat Batman: Return of the Joker, Final Fantasy Adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, and many more on that little cart than I ever did on the Game Boy. Even if it did just add a silly little border(of which I always picked people watching a movie, and STILL always pick people watching a movie).

I don't care if the Super Game Boy steals your car, you don't dump on Super Game Boy.

I don't care if Super Game Boy kicks your dog, you don't dump on Super Game Boy.

I don't care if Super Game Boy breaks into your house, murders your whole family, and writes cryptic messages to you about the oncoming apocalypse by duck people, YOU DON'T DUMP ON SUPER GAME BOY.

...seriously.

Tales of Symphonia. It showed that there was still hope for GC RPGs. Demonstrated the Gamecube's legacy of a high ratio of good-to-bad games. [Yes, ToS was available on the PS2 in Japan, but everywhere else, it was a GC exclusive. Plus, it ran better on the GC.]

I was trying not to say... I hate to be redundant... but then someone mentioned it... AH!! Gamecube + Gameboy Player = Best Console Ever! Add the Gamecube library to the GB library AND the GBC library AND AND AND the fucking GBA library! C'mon!

Oh, I'll fully agree that the Gameboy Player is a better way of enjoying your Gameboy games than the Super Gameboy (assuming you have that awesome Hori pad), but the Super Gameboy was the first console to truly get portable gaming at home right.

I don't understand the economics of the Hori pad. If Hori made like 5000 more of them right now, it would cost them peanuts I bet. And they could sell em for 15-20 bucks a piece and they'd sell out in a second and make a huge profit. Assholes.

Super Gameboy did that too. Hell, the games actually ran faster on the Super Game Boy.

Viewtiful Joe I am hesitant about since an enhance port was released on the PS2
