Why do non-americans assume all americans are idiots?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

* Only 53% of adults know how long it takes for the Earth to revolve around the Sun.
* Only 59% of adults know that the earliest humans and dinosaurs did not live at the same time.
* Only 47% of adults can roughly approximate the percent of the Earth's surface that is covered with water.*
* Only 21% of adults answered all three questions correctly.

This is very sad.

Where are these statistics coming from? I see ridiculous claims like this, like 40% of Americans cannot locate the USA on a map. These cannot be true, or the data collected is heavily skewed.

Was on the first page of this thread:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 115133.htm

I think I've heard that statistic before, but not sure if it was as high as 40%. I think the answer was because all of those people are blind.
