On the issue that some teens want a child. I can't stand going through school looking at these chicks with babies acting like its cool. All it says is you are a whore. Granted, thats probably what they are. Anyway once they are 18 and can't afford to keep themselves or the baby alive then Ill ask them if they think it was cool.
Why? Why do this to yourself?

Re: Why? Why do this to yourself?
I just find it amazing how hard it is for some people to wear a damn condom. I mean what the hell you can wait 10 seconds to put the damn thing on? Or afford the 50 cents to get it from the vending machine in the gas station? Then I gather you can't spend the time to raise a child or afford to have one either. Gotta love stupid people.

Older. Not wiser.
Re: Why? Why do this to yourself?
Ever heard of accidents? The best way to prevent pregnancy is simply to not have sex. Condoms and pills don't always work.
Gah. Are people really this dumb?
Re: Why? Why do this to yourself?
I haven't known but one girl who did this and she had her issues (stripped, drug abuser married and divorced an older guy) but she really cleaned up after the kids she's 23 now sober no drugs no booze and is pretty damn good to her kids. But yeah its a bad idea for sure. I'm not sure I ever want to have kids when I feel like hangin out and playin with a kid I'll just go hang out with my families kids or volunteer somewhere kids are expensive and complicated I know because I was one haha.
Re: Why? Why do this to yourself?
To be fair, if you regularly take the pill you are protected at a rate of about 99.7% as I recall. Condoms have a higher failure rate due to possible issues with the physical condom, not to mention failure to use it properly.newt42 wrote:Ever heard of accidents? This is one of the rare exceptions. My ex-girlfriend's sister had something similar happen, where she was wild and crazy, got pregnant at 18, and then mellowed out when she had the kid. But far too many people do not change their behavior, and it is really traumatic for the children.I haven't known but one girl who did this and she had her issues (stripped, drug abuser married and divorced an older guy) but she really cleaned up after the kids she's 23 now sober no drugs no booze and is pretty damn good to her kids. Re: Why? Why do this to yourself?
MY wife was 19 and I was 22 when we had our first son. I have two beautiful boys who are playing street fighter anniversary on my xbox as we speak, One 5 years old and the other is 8 years old. My wife wanted to have them early we both weren't ready, financially or mentally but as time goes on and you see and hold your baby for the first time you grow up fast and learn more and more as time goes on. I'm not rich but both my boys are healthy they have a roof over their head and they both are happy. Now that I'm in my thirty's and my kids are getting older, its a blast playing with them outside or having them trying to beat their old dad on the nes or genesis !!!! Ohh yeah I made sure they play old school classics from the 80's and 90's and they love it
Re: Why? Why do this to yourself?
I think it stems from that bullshit belief that all women have a deep unbreakable bond with their children. You hear this all the time. A mother's love is sacred and such. Of course these people never have explanations as to why every week there's a news report in my area of a woman that basically shit out a crying baby in a toilet in a 7-11 and left, and then someone comes in and finds the damn thing dead and drowned.
But still, you've got this whole bond concept, so naturally, it's an experience all women want. No matter how far women's rights have come, women will always have this insatiable desire to pump out children, like it's the only thing they're good for. It's a massive sense of achievement to them. "Look what I made!" And the more they make, the more "proud" they are. It's also a false sense of maturity. They make some kids, and whether their raise them or not, the outside world looks in at it like it's a lot of work. I can't count how many times I've heard people literally say days after a birth "Well it looks like she's got her shit together." It's like, following through on the pregnancy and not aborting the fucking thing is a reward in itself, and proves that you've already become a responsible mother.
There's also the theory that with no self esteem, these girls consider their selves royally fucked in life, so they create a legion of critters to just keep them company in the long haul, while the government pays to raise them.

My wife is 39 1/2 weeks pregnant and is due with our first child (a boy) on Monday (if he's actually on time!).
We met in college and married when we were in our early 20s. We've been married seven years during which time she's been taking the pill. We waited to have kids because we decided it would be irresponsible to have kids until we felt relatively financially stable - so we never even entertained the idea with any seriousness until I finished my education, got a good job, bought a house, etc. But now we feel about as ready as we can be.
Those of you with the knee-jerk reactions to pregnancy/children are not really appreciating the scope of circumstances under which people have kids. For example, that chart certainly can't encompass or explain my own thinking about why I want kids. It might just boil down to how your mind/body matures as you age (I'll be 30 later this year), how your relationship with your partner evolves, how your circumstances change, etc. - I know I certainly had no serious interest in kids until about 2-3 years ago.

While I doubt I'm the first to tell you this, I'd like to take a moment and say Congratulations dsheinem!dsheinem wrote:My wife is 39 1/2 weeks pregnant and is due with our first child (a boy) on Monday (if he's actually on time!).
Re: Why? Why do this to yourself?
Thanks! You're indeed the first to say that to "dsheinem" as no one in real life calls me by my screen name.Ack wrote:While I doubt I'm the first to tell you this, I'd like to take a moment and say Congratulations dsheinem!dsheinem wrote:My wife is 39 1/2 weeks pregnant and is due with our first child (a boy) on Monday (if he's actually on time!).
I'll probably post something after he's born (next week?). In any case, we'll be glad when the pregnancy is over as the 9th month has been pretty brutal for both my wife and I.
PAIN: now that's an argument against pregnancy which I can more easily subscribe to.
