As you can imagine many of the forum regulars are collaberating on articles behind the scenes at all time. From new 101's to guides, alittle of everything. However sometimes we get stuck in a rut and need some help. Thats where yall come in. For the past few days we have been working on the Games that Define the Gamecube and Xbox and have hit a crossroads. So instead of alot of emails back and forth on the subject I thought I would just ask yall what games did you think defined these consoles.
For me the cube is best defined by:
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Legend of Zelda Windwaker
Donkey Konga series
Eternal Darkness
Mario Kart Double Dash
Baten Kaitos
Super Monkey Ball series
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2&3
Metroid Prime 1&2
Resident Evil series/Remakes
Animal Crossing
Fzero GX
Pikmin Series
Mario Sunshine
GBA link required games - Four Swords, FFCC, Pacman Vs
But what is your take? And we are trying to stray from multiplatform titles, except those stated to be the best on the console.

Re: Games that Defined the Gamecube
Tales of Symphonia, Viewtiful Joe, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes and that's all I can really think of.
Re: Games that Defined the Gamecube
Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (first Sonic game on a Nintendo System).

Luigi's Mansion - The first time Nintendo didn't release a Mario game at launch.
and
Donkey Konga - Introduced Nintendo to interactive peripherals that lead to the Wii.

I second Viewtiful Joe. Fun game.
I don't really agree with the Sonic Adventure games. Although they were the first Sonic games on a Nintendo console, they defined the Dreamcast, not the Game Cube.

Although it came after the Gamecube had been superceded I'm also going to suggest Twilight Princess.
Re: Games that Defined the Gamecube
I think having the first Sonic game on a Nintendo console helped define the Game Cube.Reverend wrote:

Re: Games that Defined the Gamecube
I thik other than more first party nintendo games, and other games produced by nintendo you have your list already. The gamecube, although on the rise from the n64 didn't have as big of a library that you could include. Metal gear doesn't really fit, it has always been a Playstation game.fast wrote: Super Smash Bros. Melee

Mario Sunshine

I would add...
star fox adventures
star fox assault
mario party whatever number to whatever number
Battalion wars
Luigi's mansion
Tales of Symphonia only because there were so few good rpgs on the cube
the legend of zelda 4 pack.
Perhaps a quick write up about the gameboy player too?

Re: Games that Defined the Gamecube
I suggest going with the games that redefined Nintendo as a whole company when you talk about the Gamecube. I personally see last generation as the one where they really found their center and hit the right niche of genres along with a quality over quantity feeling that evolved the company as a whole immensely.
As for those who don't think that the first Sonic game on a Nintendo system was a big deal, I say you're crazy. That game's hype and surrounding atmosphere was MASSIVE, it was the first time that guys like me who had never (at the time) owned a Genesis or a Dreamcast to actually own a Sonic game on our machines instead of just getting our minds blown in little snippets at a friends house or at the store demo. Speaking of demos I must have spent hours playing that one little ten minute demo at the Wal-Mart by my house, and Nintendo themselves for the first and one of only two other times (Mario Kart & Metroid Prime) released an actual playable demo disc for the occasion. To those of us who hadn't ever had the chance to truly enjoy a Sonic game or any other Sega title that moment in Gamecube history defined the early life of the console.
Games I believe should make the cut are the games that shook up the scene and were exemplary titles that truly gave the Gamecube it's spot in history as the last 'Gamers only' console without any bells and whistles such as:
Sonic Games
Zelda Four Swords
Luigi's Mansion
Animal Crossing
Donkey Konga
Resident Evil
Gameboy Player (As the first console to truly get portable gaming at home right)
Super Mario Sunshine
Eternal Darkness
Metroid Prime Series
Custom Robo
Chibi Robo
Pikmin
The evolution of the Mario Sports Series
Wave Race Blue Storm
Ikaruga (Most surprising release)
Viewtiful Joe Series
Starfox Series (As it evolved from action with a loose story to a full blown action-adventure series)
The first system to ever see successful re-releases of older titles in their original graphical format (Sonic Mega Collection, Zelda Compilations, Star Wars Arcade etc...)
