DS hacking

Hello

I would like from any one of you to give me a briefing about DS hacking or a website about it. I heard you can play backups and homebrew applications exist for this thing. You can also play emulated games like Snes and other stuff. Would be great if Gameboy (original) emulation exists. I know There used to be a cartridge called R4 or something like that you can play roms on, but its not being sold any more.

Does this tinkering hurt you DS? Will it "brick" the ds? Is it worth it?

The only way you can brick your DS is if you screw the firmware flash up, which is completely optional with all the modern backup playing methods now. Its still handy for removing the annoying white warning screen from the DS every bootup, however.

I have a EZ-Flash V and love it. You can play DS, NES, some SNES and GB and GBC games on it. For the most part most games play good. Theres more systems you can emulate like TG-16 and Neo Geo but, I prefer to play those on my PSP so I haven't tried that myself. If your looking for good system for emulation, the PSP is the way to go as the DS's emulation pales in comparison. http://sky2k.com/shop/ should have everything one needs for DS back up equipment. I never had any issues with with my DS using my EZ-Flash V hope this helps.

I noticed they got R4 in the website you provided , but no EZ flash products.

You think I should buy an R4 or EZ flash if I ever get a DS?

Are homebrew applications that good?

Original R4s are not being made anymore, you can get clones but some people have problems with them. My R4 is a knock off (the R4 Ultra), it works fine for running games, but I've read themeing doesn't work with these. I don't care about themes so I haven't had any problems.

I think the best cheap card right now is the DSTT. It's still being made by the original people and getting updates. Also, the custom firmware YSMENU runs on the DSTT without modification; you have to patch YSMENU to run on an R4. I haven't got my Slot-2 device yet, but apparently YSMENU will copy a GBA rom to the Slot-2 device and launch it in one step, which is convenient.

Most of these flash cards are cheap enough that you shouldn't worry too much about getting the best card. If you don't like it try another card for ~$10. I like DealExtreme for these things. You can get a DSTT for $6 shipped, or an EZ Flash V for $16. I'm not sure what you get for the extra $10. It's hard to go too far wrong, unless you get a card that doesn't support your model of DS.

Everyone speaks highly of the CycloDS, but what does it do that cheaper cards won't? These things cost ~50 when you can get a perfectly functional flash cart for <$10.
