dreamcast control pad help pleasee im going mad

i have started to convert my dreamcast control to play in jamma cabinet ... i have soldred all the wires on both pads and the start button .. not using the levers. ... but know how do i get it to work ,, do i need to run a voltage to it ... does cabinet have to be switched on ... do i connect to jamma connection or solder to arcade buttons ... please help

thanks for the last link ... so is it because iam not running all three wires if so what three wires... thanks in advance

I don't know, I just pointed you in the right direction, you might want to send a PM to mako asking him how he did it.

I think he used a third party pad for the contacts (IE one of those dreampads with the 6 button layout) so if you are using an official controller that might be why you're having trouble. They really don't like having connections/traces broken at all.
