My roommate almost failed out of our university for playing too much WoW. It was incredible- I'd wake up around 7am and he'd still be playing. He was even a pledge leader for his fraternity and ended up ditching all the meetings to play WoW. I specifically recall people banging on our door, and me having to cover for him saying he wasn't there and to go away.

You can only hope that is not real. 
And yes MMO's are the devil. The "life drop out rate" is off the charts with games like those.
This is actually an issue the game developers have worked on to make better for the players.
