true. I think valve has started to get around that with left 4 dead. The music changes with what happens in the game. Even though it is atmospheric and not exactly a score to a game, you still kinda need it to play well. I usually put on last fm for any kind online shooter. Crank up the effects, and turn down the music in game. You really don't need it for COD4 or TF2. Every once and a while though a song will come on with mock bullet sound effects and i'll wig out in game. Keeps me on my toes.
I never had the patience to try to make custom soundtracks on the 360, so i suffer on that guy.
