HEY, Japan's Most Legendary Arcade? (PICS)

I went to HEY! (I'm pretty sure there's an exclemation mark on there) about a year ago, when I was in Tokyo last year. Tons o' shmups, as you (and everyone else that visits, I suppose) has noted. Besides just playing shmups I'd never gotten the chance to play, it was also fun just to get to play the arcade iterations of so many games I was familiar with. Alas, I didn't get to go to many arcades or shops in Tokyo, as the wedding I was there for was at a temple in the countryside (followed by a temple tour in Kyoto and Nara). I never even got to visit Super Potato.

I don't think there is an exclamation mark. I've never noticed it during the many times I've went. Also, "HEY" is actually an acronym for "Hirose Entertainment Yard" (See first pic).

Oh, and you didn't miss out on anything at Super Potato....unless you're into overpriced games that can be bought for half the price at game shops just outside of Tokyo.

HEY kicks all ass. I remember going there to play Under Defeat back in the day to see if the DC version was worth the money. Easy decision

I've played that. I had no idea WTF I was doing, but it was still fun!

Looks like some of the old Battletech setups, where they had the cockpits you had to get inside. I wonder if it came with a self-destruct button...

I still have the card for that game laying around somewhere. I played two rounds of that and by the time I was finished I was sweating profusely and I was very close to vomiting. It's the only time a game has made me motion sick - and severely at that.

I was first place in both rounds.

I wasn't trying to imply that I was missing anything at Super Potato, so much as the fact that I never got to visit a single video game store during my entire stay in Japan. If I were to repeat the experience, however, I wouldn't visit Akihabara at all. Kyoto and Nara were much more memorable and meaningful than anything in Tokyo was, video games be damned.

I was first place in both rounds.

I'm never going to Nara again! I took a roadtrip there with some friends...stopped at one of the temples...and we were attacked by a pack of Deer.

Kyoto is nice, though. I've been all over Japan, and that's the most beautiful part of Japan. But when you've seen one shrine/temple/castle, you've seen them all.
