Bezerk, Space Invaders and Pitfall.

If you really dig the Atari, pick up a copy of river raid.

Combat and Warlords are great multi-player games and are still fun today if you can find someone else to play them with you. If can somehow find three other people willing to give Warlords a try, pick up another set of paddles and prepare yourself for a truly great retro time.

As for the single player games, Demon Attack, Yar's Revenge, Missile Command, Stampede and Pitfall! are all winners. Berzerk, Space Invaders and Frogger were good ports for the time, but I'd rather play them on MAME at this point.

I definitely second the recommendation for River Raid and let me add Kaboom! and Pitfall II to the list. Indy 500 is more great multi-player fun if you can get it with the two driving controllers it originally came with. Enjoy!

I can't believe he didn't have more copies of E.T. and Pacman. I have 15 copies of Pacman for the 2600.

If that's the same Baseball game I'm thinking of, then that game rocks with two players. I spent many hours playing that game with my cousin when I was younger.
