Is a 3DO worth buying?

Is a 3DO worth buying?

Post by LCDSCREEN »

I found a 3DO with two controllers and a Model 1 Genesis and Sega CD on craigslist for $45 each today and I was wondering if the 3DO was worth picking up. I mean it's a good price so I probably would, I just don't really know any good games for the system. D:
I believe it has a good port of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, but what's the point with HD Remix out already? Other than that, the only things that come to mind are FMV games. Anyone know of anything good?

3DO is okay. It has some good games, but mostly crap. I would make sure the unit is working before I spend that kind of money on it, many of the original 3DO systems are dying. I'm also not sure I would pay $45 for a 3DO by itself, without games
owned: Atari VCS, Intellivision, ColecoVision, NES, NES2, Sega Master System, Turbografx-16, Genesis/Sega CD Model 1, Genesis/Sega CD Model 2/32x, SNES, Atari Jaguar, Virtual Boy, GBA, 3DO, Saturn, Playstation, PSone, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3
wanted: Cd-I, Neo Geo AES

Aside from SSF2T, most of the good 3DO games are ports of good PC games like Syndicate and Star Control 2. And SSF2T requires you to find one of the third-party controllers for proper play (or you're having a punch/kick button assigned to what is essentially start), and, as you mentioned, it is pretty much invalidated by HDR. I picked mine up as a minor curiosity and it hasn't really seen much play. I wouldn't recommend it at the price you quoted.

I'd buy an atari jaguar before a 3DO.

I think you could find one cheaper, I've got an fz-10 and it hasn't failed me yet. Its got some pretty good games ported for it, you can get a pretty good library going for cheap if you shop around long enough. Check amazon if you're looking for games, there are some good deals at times.

I haven't owned a 3DO but would also recommend a jaguar over it it depends on what model it is to I believe goldstar models are the most valuable and I've spotted them in the wild for 40 or so even though they can fetch more. And of course as always test before buying!

Pretty much what he said, 3DO I would say it is the superior FMV system, I am curious of what Night Trap is like on that system.
