I am really starting to hate CD's. Its not the load times, its not the size, its not the cases. No, its the fucking fact that I get a small scratch on the new CD I bought, and it skips on all the tracks. Thats just messed the fuck up. I have several tapes that have survived countless years of abuse, being thrown around and what not, sure the quality degrades over time, but oh well, at least you can fast forward right where you want to be and pause and pick up later with VHS etc. They work fine. Then game cartridges are tanks. I haven't seen one break in under more than 3 or 4 beats with a hammer, they are more asthetically pleasing. And in very rare circumstances do they ever stop working from an issue besides being obliderated or the contacts being a little dirty. Its easy enough now to produce high capacity carts, sure CD's are less expensive, but who cares, I'd pay 5 dollars more knowing that my games would never under normal circumstances stop working.
Also digital downloads might seem fine till the company or service they are on goes under. Not to mention you aren't physically owning anything. Maybe im just matierialistic.
Fuck CD's, and fuck the digital revolution.
I hate CD's, DVD's, and anything that isn't tape or cart.

agree. If the neogeo came out tomorrow, id pay 150$ per game just to know that another 20 years from now...they would still be working. Where as the 360 game that I MIGHT drop and scratch wont play after 5 minutes.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.
Re: I hate CD's, DVD's, and anything that isn't tape or cart.
It's not CDs that bug me, it's the whole digital revolution that bugs the shit out of me. You can't show of your collection of files in a folder on a harddrive the same way you can show off a collection of carts and CDs.
Re: I hate CD's, DVD's, and anything that isn't tape or cart.
I agree. I guess developers like it because that way you can't resell them and cut down on their profits. But in 10 years when I want to go back and play an xbox live arcade game but my harddrive or 360 crashed, how am I gonna play the game? It's not like I can just buy a used copy on ebay. I'll have to buy a whole harddrive.

I too hate the forthcoming digital revolution. Digital music has a place, since music is usually something you want to be portable, but movies and games need to be on some kind of physical media. Unlike others in the thread, I dont HATE cds and other disk media, in fact I prefer disks for movies and music to their tape counterparts... I do prefer carts for games, but dont mind disks anymore.

Carts were so much better. I really wish consoles just stuck with them. FMVs did way more harm than good. They were nothing but a gimmick to catch the eyes of shallow people who couldn't appreciate graphics at the time. If carts would have just stuck around for one more generation, graphics would have caught up anyway, as we saw with PS2. GTA3 was a massive success, and its one of the ugliest PS2 games ever made.
I'm really sick of hearing that argument that carts are expensive to produce. Again, if publishers would have just suffered through one more generation, the flash storage age would have saved them. You can buy 8GB flash drives for like $12 now. That's a dual layer DVD game right there.
Or they could have just went with something like UMDs, where the discs were well protected.
It's primitive as all hell that we're still using bare and fragile discs in this age. Its like they want our shit to break, so we have to replace it. Well, this is where digital distribution will succeed, but they have zero resell value. So we all lose now.

I also agree. I grew up in the 80's and if i got mad at a game i use to throw the game at the wall i.e ninja gaiden or ninja gaiden 2. even in the 90's with the genesis or snes games i would get mad and kick the system and throw the game at the wall and 5 minutes later put the game back in the system and the game works. try doing that with a cd and see what happens lol. Yeah i had anger issues as a kid with my games but didnt we all do that growing up with the nes?
Re: I hate CD's, DVD's, and anything that isn't tape or cart.
Wow! I've seen this with controllers because they are immediately there. But the game cart? I mean dude... you've got to turn the system off and take the cart out to chuck it.... lmao! By that time you could've destroyed your controller three times over!

Belive me dude I've done that with the controllers also but I would get so mad at the game i would not even turn the system off just pull out the game and chuck it I would never do that now especially since i have an xbox i wanted a cartridge based system but got that and about 100 games for christmas from the wife had no choice and now im up to 180 games but I would trade it all for a nes or a genny if i had the chance
