the tough metroid

Post by RCBH928 »

OK I am talking about the first one on the Snes
I think it is super metroid

I just want to know who thinks this is an acceptable difficulty game?
I thought it was TOUGH, it is damn hard.
It is impossible to know what to do, and the secret areas are really a secret that you do not know about..
I do not think you would ever know how to do a dash and then use it by the ship to get to a certain height
to get in a secret cave only to drop down by the invisible blocks and then you have to shoot right and left to get
the bonus missiles. seriously? And that is only a part of the game not to mention the rest!

I am following a tutorial line by line and still find it hard to get around, specially considering that wall jump skill that I started to considered videogames to be a real sport since you need skills to do such moves.

I am not sure, but I think it was made to be played a 70 million times so each time you might find something new you missed on the first time and create replay value. What is really bad is you get to areas that you think you can pass but you can't because you a special power/weapon that you do not know about that comes around later in the game, and you do not know it comes later in the game. So you just keep trying like crazy thinking this is the way to continue.

Tell me what you think?
I really got a clear idea why when I was younger was not investing in videogames or even trying to complete them.

Super Metroid is the game by which gamers are made or broken.

After all, if you can't take the heat....

I'm in the middle of playing this too. I love it! I got a real sense of accomplishment when I super missled a group of rippers and had to wall jump exactly the right way to get into the little opening that housed the super bombs. The only thing I can't stand is the bomb jump. I cannot pull it off.

I found it to be average. I had little trouble with it. Only needed a FAQ once, I think around the ghost ship or whatever.

I got to agree with Mozgus that the game was about average in difficulty. The first metroid on nes thou I couldn't even find the first boss.

As someone who's never played Metroid games before, I just recently battled through Metroid 2 on the GameBoy, only to get to find that I missed some missile expansions in the very, very beginning and that are necessary to obtain in order to kill the last boss.
Difficult? Somewhat. Aggravating? As hell...but still a lot of fun.

Needless to say, I watched the ending on youtube instead.

Metroid 2 is awesome, but nothing compared to Super Metroid. I seriously recommend you try it :)

Easy but great game. Rented the game in the earlier 90's and beat in around 2 days. Played through on my pc (emu) like a year ago.
Still pretty easy. The wall jump was kind of hard at first using my keyboard. (got it down after awhile)

WTB 3D Metroid with Ocarina of time control system.

can any one tell me how this is easy running around not know what to do or what you can get
Sure it has no load times, but going through the wrong route to find out you can't continue any more here so you turn around and run back through all the chambers with the enemies coming back to life and mini pauses from one area to another alone is frustrating enough. Plus the map is complex enough

how is it easy?
Sure I think it is great, but difficult

What is your definition of a secret?

Find a safe spot in the game where you can practice it, so that you can pull it off whenever it's necessary. Quality videogames take time to get good at.

That's the proper way to add replay value. So that people are rewarded for taking their time to get through the game. Not ridiculous stuff like new costumes, or playing through the game as a different character that plays identical to the original.

Remember when you said something to the extent of, "2D gameplay is just the same linear gameplay over and over, and doesn't hold up to 3D" awhile back? Welcome to the world of 2D depth.
I also recall you praising the hell out of, The Legend Of Zelda, which does the same thing...just the very easy way, by giving you the item moments after you discover that you need something new.
