I've wondered that myself. My assumption is because Pokemon's general audience are young ones with little knowledge of fair gaming prices. Gamespot probably kept it at its normal price point and never lowered the price because the general Pokemon consumer kept buying it despite the fact that the price hadn't dropped. Prices will probably stay similarly high on Amazon and eBay because the people who acquired it bought it at a GameStop-level price, and don't want to lose too much much money reselling it. The combination of online sellers systematically lowering the price of the game by trying to beat eachother's low prices to ensure sales and the new DSi not having a slot for Gameboy Advance games should lead to it slowly going down in price. So basically, the answer you're looking for is because retailers like GameStop employ child-exploiting methods of supply and demand, and thus the results of those methods trickle down into transactions enacted by the general public.

Edit: Bahahahaha, GameSlop.

We'll never know. Why does Joe Perry ride his bike to school every day? He only lives one block away. It's just one of those things...

Yeah, that's weird. I noticed that Pokemon games barely decrease in value. Used Ruby and Sapphire are $30 and Emerald INCREASED to $40. That's insane. I just got a REAL emerald off of ebay for $18 so I'm lucky. But I have no idea why these games increase in value.

Its because everyone likes pokemon. EVERYONE. also becuase parents are willing to spend the 40 bucks on their childs videogame. They can see no difference in current generation game prices and older games because to them a game is a game is a game.

Basic business economics. If people keep buying it at the current, no sense losing money decreasing the price. As long as people pay for it, the price will stick. Need to tell the mom and dads of the world to stop paying too much for a game.
