US Sega CD with a JAP Mega Drive.

Post by deltaspiegel »

Hello all,

I have a little question: will a US Sega CD work with a JAP Mega Drive?

It's just that I have an old JAP MD and would like to buy the CD-addon. but the JAP mega CD is extremely rare in these parts.

No, it will not. You'll need a Genesis to work with a Sega CD.

No, it isn't going to work unless your JP Megadrive is modded - the SEGA CD will detect that the console is NTSC-J and will bring up a "Not for use in this region" message. The megadrive needs a switch on it to change the region from NTSC to NTSC-J, or the SEGA-CD needs a multi-bios switch to change the bios from US to Japanese. Ideally it's best to have a Megadrive with a region switch & a 50/60hz switch and a SEGA CD with a multi-bios switch - then you'll be able to play all the Megadrive & SEGA CD games in all regions with a few switch flicks, and the 32x doesn't even require modification to work with a modified Megadrive set up.

Howver, it'd probably be cheaper to get a US Genesis along with a US SEGA CD.
