Re: What's your political orientation?
I take no definite sides. I make my political alignments based on the situation. I believe that no single political party can always have the right answer, and it just leads to pointless, destructive arguments, bias, and one-sided ignorance.

Re: What's your political orientation?
I actually revisited Carlin's entire discography recently, and couldn't believe how dead on and still relevant his opinions and ideas remain decades later. That guy was a true hero.

Completely agree. George Carlin is and probably will be always right when it comes to politics. I got most of his cd's and all his books. I am moderate. I like some of the Republicans economic stances but I prefer Democrats social stances. Either party is completely fucking whacked though. Washington was right about political parties.
Question:
Isn't the Anarchist party or any TRUE anarchist organization an oxymoron. I guess a single person could be an anarchist.

Re: What's your political orientation?
I personally do not like discussing politics, mainly because if I open my mouth about it, I would loose a friend or two. Basically, I am a Libertarian, I don't believe in left or right, and both parties are wrong.

Instead, they're all just whining and serve as distractions from the real issues that we actually could fix if we'd ignore the completely fucking pointless non-issues like the ones you mentioned. I mean really, abortion. Who cares either way? How is it harming you? Would the world really be a better place with more fucking humans? If you feel the need to stick your sniffer up every pregnant woman's cunt in this nation, you have a psychotic issue and need to seek treatment, not office.MrPopo wrote:Yeah, that's me as well. I have basically no idealism and understand that all of the crazy politics that involve major changes to the way our country currently works will probably not happen during my lifetime. Real Issues? Really? What would YOU call a real issue?
Any society that brutally murders their offspring is pretty screwed up!

Normal human beings care, sir!
How are the babies harming YOU! Why do they deserve to die?
Maybe the world WOULD be better off with a few less "fucking humans" that think like you!

Re: What's your political orientation?
I am a socialist libertarian (or perhaps a libertarian socialist). My socio-political views fit pretty well with the ideals of the Democratic party, but I differ widely when it comes to practice.
I believe in individual liberties but also in regulation and government-provided services.
In general I'm socialist when it comes to matters of economics and business, especially big business. For example, I think market capitalism needs regulation or it becomes economic Darwinianism: only the strong survive. The problem is that consumers are weak. Without regulation the consumer would ALWAYS lose. That doesn't mean I necessarily agree with current market and economic regulation. Bad regulations can be worse than none. I also think globalization is over-rated. Nothing wrong with a little market protectionism here and there. I'm not a big fan of unions right now, however, because it seems most of them have gone awry. With proper market controls unions aren't necessary anyway.
People like to say government is inefficient, but it isn't always. I think the government can, with proper legislative backing, do a lot of things well. It's all about economies of scale, y'see.
Socially I'm libertarian. People should be able to do what they want, by and large, so long as it doesn't pose a risk to others. Drink, smoke, do drugs, I don't care, so long as DUIs put people away in prison longer. I'm all for tort reform and such as well. I also have problems with current are-based stuff, like 18 to smoke but 21 to drink, and complicated laws concerning age and consensual sex. Thank goodness I'm not a teenager anymore. Good grief...

You're gonna have to back off on the use of exclamation points, there, hoss. This is exactly what this discussion is NOT going to turn into.Chickensuit wrote:Real Issues? Really? What would YOU call a real issue?

And for the record I also think the world is overpopulated. While abortion is undesirable (on a number of levels and for a number of different reasons), making it 100% inaccessible creates more problems than it solves. That's MY OPINION. T'ain't no facts to be found in this discussion. If you're looking for "truth" and facts look elsewhere.
Everyone, be warned. Any more of this and I'll start handing out warnings and lock the thread.
