Don't know if there's been a thread about this, but I couldn't find it.
Since there's been some political talk lately in the forum, I thought it would be nice to know what are the general political positions of the people here. I thought about starting a poll, but I wouldn't be able to do justice to all political positions in it (my own views are pretty exotic and almost never represented anywhere), and, besides, I wouldn't know who voted for what.
Oh, and it's not my intention to start a discussion (I know this is almost impossible in topics like this, but...). I just want to know where you guys are coming from.
So, what's your political background?
I'll start. I'm a radical libertarian, a market anarchist. In short, I believe in private property and no government. Generally, I'm very strongly in favor of free markets, strongly against wars, and skeptical of bureaucracy. Some of my political heroes are: Lysander Spooner, Frédéric Bastiat, Gustave de Molinari, Benjamin Tucker, Herbert Spencer, Thomas Paine, William Lloyd Garrison, among others.

For social beliefs, see the preamble to the Declaration of Independence (We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator(not so much, this word) with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes)

I'm open to any and all political ideas as long as we the people and our respective nations etc... are bettered because of it. I feel as if arguing over politics is like arguing over consoles, one may have better ideas but the other has more influential power etc... Neither are clearly better than the other, as both have strengths and weaknesses that are better put to use together, not separate because of a stray ideal that could easily be sorted out or compromised.

Edited: I've decided to change my political position to more accurately reflect the "story" of General Chaos (as spelled out in the instruction manual). As such, I am now in support of raising two children--ideally named Chaos and Havoc--solely for the purpose of waging nonsensical war against one another in the name of good, clean fun.

Yeah, that's me as well. I have basically no idealism and understand that all of the crazy politics that involve major changes to the way our country currently works will probably not happen during my lifetime. I'd probably care about politics if the big topic issues were actually....issues, as in problems. Instead, they're all just whining and serve as distractions from the real issues that we actually could fix if we'd ignore the completely fucking pointless non-issues like the ones you mentioned. I actually revisited Carlin's entire discography recently, and couldn't believe how dead on and still relevant his opinions and ideas remain decades later. That guy was a true hero.
