how about a racketboy podcast?
Re: how about a racketboy podcast?
Damn. Mega bump is right. Anyways, I would love to see a racketboy podcast! More than anything, I'd really like to hear your (the mods) personal, more in depth opinions on some of the hidden gems. Also, as someone who grew up with Nintendo (and without the internet or much knowledge of games), I'd love to hear your childhood memories of systems long past, Saturn multitap link parties, big game launches, ect. Best of luck!

Haha this proves that racket is no sell out as every time I've checked the store it's always been at least 75% unstockedracketboy wrote:That would be nicenocturnalnerd wrote:Ok I understand I was just curious. I figured if it was not enough to live on or you would be well living on it.
Actually, this is probably the first year the site itself has turned a profit.
The store makes me more money than the advertising.
Of course, the store doesn't take nearly as much work
So.... if I was only in it for the money, I would be sticking with the store. But I love the rest of the stuff too much

No you wouldn't, trust me. Fastbilly sounds like the Shadow, Mr. Popo screeches repetitively like Godzilla, Mozgus has the voice of Darth Vader, I sound like Pee Wee Herman, and Racket sounds like Doc Brown from Back to the Future. There's no way you'd want to spend half an hour of your life listening to us squawk at each other.equalsign wrote:More than anything, I'd really like to hear your (the mods) personal, more in depth opinions on some of the hidden gems.

Plus, it would probably devolve into a Sega vs. Nintendo brawl with one voice shouting out for the Neo Geo.Ack wrote:No you wouldn't, trust me. I had a conversation about this with Moz a while back. I would be interested in doing this, it might be good to have the opinion of somebody the other side of the pond.
I'd definitely be up for it once a month or what have you.

I have a guy that has radio/audio experience that wants to organize one. If everyone that's interested in participating on a regular basis and thinks they can help make it a high-quality production (not a bunch of blabbing and random laughing like SOME podcasts that I can't stand listening to), email me (racketboy AT gmail) and we can try to organize something.
This can only happen if other dependable people can organize it. The only thing I can commit to is try to be a guest on the show as much as I can. I don't have time to organize/edit and my speaking voice has much to be desired. (I think sounding like Doc Brown would be a compliment)

Much like me sounding like Vader would be. Even though most people around here tell me I speak all fancy like, there's probably still 10% redneck in my voice that I'd struggle to hide from you guys.racketboy wrote:I have a guy that has radio/audio experience that wants to organize one. I really would be interested in doing this once a month. We'd need a very easy means of communicating and planning ahead, and I don't think the forums would be good enough for that. I'm only in touch with Niode when he gets on Steam, and thats about it. Duct has left the forums indefinitely it seems, and he's the one I'd want on the show the most. I don't care how off-topic he'd make it, he'd be the most entertaining one by far.

Re: how about a racketboy podcast?
I've been toying with the idea of doing a podcast for sometime. After a year of listening to "retro" game podcasts, I've decided that I should do my own old school gaming podcast. Instead of discussing Wii Ware releases, I would want to hear some discussions of games. So often on shows I hear the people say "well I've never played that." One thing I would love is if everyone involved could familiarize themselves, if only a little with a game before talking about it. My suggestions was to use the game of the month that way.
A few practice shows in the can and I'll feel confident to release something for everyone to listen to. I work stocking shelves at night, and listening to podcasts helps me keep what little sanity I have. Especially talk about video games and horror movies. I think I can do it and do it well. I just have to find the time to get everyone involved together, prepare some show notes beforehand, and have some other pre-taped bits to work in. I want the podcast I make to be best it can be. Actual talk and discussion, information as accurate as possible, and an emphasis on the glory days before the internet and "graphics." Before trading games in for store credit. The all or nothing days of going into Ames with my parents and trying to convince them to buy nintendo games. That feeling christmas morning when I got my nintendo. I'm sure racketboy and a few other people I'd like to have as part of the discussion panel have similar stories to share.
I'll see what I can get together this week.

Do you think you could also schedule a time with some of us so we can do a group session?
Maybe give us one demo show to listen to if you want, but I think if we had 3-5 people on each one, it would make things more interesting/insightful.
Although, we will have to work on not talking over each other. That seems to be a real art in group podcasting. The regulars on TWIT are pretty darn good at that.
