parasite attack! - a videogame-like real life experience

this isn't very videogame related, but it sounds like something you might see in a game...
i was walking around with my friend jun and his girlfriend yurie, enjoying the gorgeous fall weather (it was october at the time, not too hot and not cold). i noticed a praying mantis slowly marching along the concrete near a fountain, and stopped to take a look since i've seen only about 2 of these creatures in my life. as the creature started grudgingly walking towards my shoe, jun casually said "don't touch him. he got parasite" to which i quickly shouted "what?!" and backed away. yurie asked how it was possible to tell, and jun said "just watch, i'll show you" and took a handful of water from the fountain and splashed it on my green buddy. the mantis cringed in agony as a twig-like parasite, roughly 8 inches long or so, slithered out of his hind quarters! yurie shrieked and ran behind jun, while i stood there in shock as the parasite begin to wiggle about on the concrete near the mantis who was writhing in pain. jun, casually yet again, said this kind of parasite hates water and picked up a nearby stick, scooped up the parasite, and dropped him into the fountain where he appeared to be suffering more than he ever imagined could be possible. we left the worm for dead and returned to our mantis friend. yurie said "oh my god, he's gonna die isn't he?" to which jun simply said "probably". i cheered the green guy on as he slowly rose up from his seeming death and waddled like an elderly japanese man with a bad back into some nearby bushes...

Wow, that's an awesome story. Though how could he tell that the parasites were on him? I mean i knew that splashing him with water revealed it..but how did he assume that they were ther ein the first place? Interesting.
