The disc reader on my Gamecube...

...is half dead. Games will randomly give me a disc read error message. Half of the games dont even work at times. I'm pretty sure this is a problem with my disc reader. Do i need to clean it, or get it replaced? What would I use and how would i clean it if necessary?

If those don't fix your problem(and you are in fact able to open your gamecube) you might need to adjust the pot on your laser. Cranking up the voltage will probably fix your DRE.

That would be the first thing I would do if my Gamecube started to not work properly...

What did you do to it?

But yeah use a moist (not dripping wet) Q-Tip and very gently wipe down the lens.

This happens to me as well, but it's not too much of a problem. It works about 75% of the time. Just letting you know you're not alone!
