I have lots of Saturn and DC game images in CDI, NRG, and occasionally ISO format. I know there are several free programs out there. What softwares are people using these days to burn their images? For proprietary formats like CDI and NRG do you mount the image in Daemon Tools and do a disc copy?
I just installed CD Burner XP Pro, which is supposed to be nice, but I know there are other free programs as well.

ImgBurn has worked well for me and it is free, I haven't tried it for Saturn/DC images though. In regards to mounting, I never had to do that for a Saturn or Dreamcast game. I believe it supports all the image types you have.

For shame. How can you be a mod and ask such a low level question?
Just search, man. We have plenty of threads already.

I figured most people used pay software. I did for a long time. But now that I have an upgraded computer my OEM DVD drive lacks any burning software. Besides, my awareness of CD software is about 4 years behind.
Besides, I did search and I didn't come up with much. You know by now the limitations of of forum searches.

For ISOs I use wodim from cdrkit. For CDIs, I use cdirip and burn the BIN/CUE with cdrdao. For NRGs, I try nrg2iso first, but I hear nrg4iso is pretty good. I don't come across .nrg that often.
Proprietary CD formats suck. Everyone should use BIN/CUE.

I've used CDburner XP for making BIN/CUE saturn games into ISO's, and then burning them to discs. Its worked out quite nicely for me. I dunno about how well CDburnerXP is with DC games. I havent tried that out quite yet.marurun wrote:I have lots of Saturn and DC game images in CDI, NRG, and occasionally ISO format. I know there are several free programs out there. I agree that the forum search is not very good. The other day I was trying to find something to do with "sega saturn eclipse controller" and it tossed out sega & saturn because the words were too common.marurun wrote: Besides, I did search and I didn't come up with much. imgburn works great for saturn isos. dreamcast isos are another story. every time i tried to burn one with imgburn it wouldn't work.
Re: What's the best free CD burning software?
I used to be able to burn Dreamcast games with ease - about 2 years ago. Now, all the methods I tried before no longer work, and now I'm sitting on a metric ton of coasters, not to mention all the hair I've pulled out screaming at the damn things to work.
You'd think that, after a fucking decade, this stuff would be pretty damn 'point and click', but after downloading about a dozen programs, none of them seem to work. Good times.
It's starting to look like it'll be easier to work until I have enough money to buy Under Defeat than it would be to just pirate it.

You need to keep in mind that copying games is illegal, and it's not the aim of these softwares to break the law. Sometimes, software is updated to counter piracy and make it fail in these cases. Other times, updates are breaking functionality of exploits that pirates rely on (like selfbootable Dreamcast games) simply by accident.the7k wrote:I used to be able to burn Dreamcast games with ease - about 2 years ago. In any case, you really cant bitch about it. All you guys need to do a little wiki research on CD formats and actually understand how this shit works. It will help you out in the long run. If you're burning something and it "just doesn't work", then it's time for a little homework, because there is always an obvious answer.
