recommend me some japanese toy/figure makers

Post by toredauei »

hey everyone,

Im looking for a good list of, as the title states, japanese toy or figure makers. I'm starting to look into making models of video game/ anime characters etc. as a hobby and if I have enough interest in it, doing it as a profession and I could use the websites to research job opportunities or just as refences. I do relize the odds of actually working in this field are slim as my dad tells me every day but for now I'd just like to get my feet wet and maby I can even make some extra cash on the side (expect a thread with pics sometime in the near future :D )

I'm also open to suggestions as to what characters you guys would like to see made :D

THANKS!

The Figma company makes highly articulated models. Very impressive stuff.

I think you should carve/scuplt them using traditional methods then sell them on etsy or at local conventions...

yea that was along the lines of what I was planning on doing until I graduate. I think that would be a good way to be noticed, assuming I have any sort of real talent

I tried scuplting a long time ago, but it was not my forte, to much pain in the hands. Best of luck and if I can help give me a shout. I know my hands cant do the motions anymore but I should still know them.

i started working at an anime toy/etc warehouse recently, and kotobukiya seems to be the biggest name around. they usually make the more expensive ones that don't appear too poseable, intended to be more like statues.

kaiyodo also makes good figures, with my favorites being the evangelion robots. they also manufacture the revoltech series which include some kinda ugly street fighter online characters, fist of the north star, TONS of giant robots from various series (evangelion, gurren lagann, transformers, and tons more) as well as the fraulein series which includes some female characters from anime (rin tohsaka from fate, asuka and rei from evangelion, and a few more.

max factory makes the previously mentioned figma series. yamato and organic hobby also make some higher end figures. square enix manufactures TONS of nice final fantasy and kingdom hearts figures as well.

if you're looking for anything good for really cheap, send me a PM
