Just a little idea I thought I would throw out to the community...
What if we all pitched in to record some gameplay footage of games that are featured in the Hidden Gems series, stitched them together nicely, published them on Youtube and tied them together with the webpage counterpart?
As nice as screenshots are, I think a lot of people would like to see some clips of them in action without having to look each one up seperately.
Anyone interested?

I'd probably be your man for that. That's a lot of work though, and I'm generally not setup to even emulate most of those obscure platforms. It would save me a lot of time if someone were to prepare a download pack of all the games I'd need. You also gatta factor in how few emulators support AVI writing, or use an engine that FRAPS can record from. Could be really difficult for the cross platform montages. And then of course, when someone like myself doesn't really know how to play some games, the footage will look boring and unprofessional.

Well, if we could start with the easiest ones, that would be a start.
So we should probably agree on which platforms would be easiest and start on those before spreading ourselves too thin.

This is a great idea. I would be willing to record some gameplay footage, if I have the time.

Here are a couple of Emulators I use with decent AVI recording functions, I think that there are also more out there besides these.
NES: Nestopia
SNES: ZSNES
Genesis/Sega CD/32X: Kega Fusion
You could probably find a good emulator for most consoles, but my guess is that there are decent programs that just record what's on your screen, so all you'd have to do is run one of those and Alt+Enter your way to some gameplay footage.

And were you wanting a music video montage type deal, or strictly a series of clips with an old MTV-type lower left information panel for each game?

I don't think I'll be able to help much as I have a mac and only two emulators, but I think this is an awesome idea just like that guy who does the VGA TV thing just posted that Hagane footage that was really interesting. I'd love to see more stuff like that.

Re: Idea for Community Project: Videos for Hidden Gems series?
My suggestion is to talk over it as little as possible. Good solid gameplay videos.
Perhaps even posting them twice on you tube, one with talking explaining all the aspects of a game. Why it's a gem, why it is what it is, trivia, all the usual stuff I expect to hear about a game. Then post one that's just gameplay. Might be a little more work than its worth, but hey, gotta keep you in the job somehow.
A lot, and I mean a lot, of people like to talk over gameplay footage and it just doesn't work for them. They're either too relaxed or too angry, and I think a lot of it is fake anger at that, and it's not informative or entertaining to sit through.

I would like the later so people can get an idea of the music. Does that sound good?Mozgus wrote:And were you wanting a music video montage type deal, or strictly a series of clips with an old MTV-type lower left information panel for each game?
As for talking -- I don't want any. Unless you have a super-great radio voice, it's not a good idea. It can kill an otherwise good video. Small bit of text is ok and if they want to read more of a description of the game, they can read the article (which we can link to in the sidebar)
