NES GAUNTLET CARTS

Post by wclem »

Hey I found an Nes Gauntlet cart today. I thought all Tengen carts were that funky black and shaped differently? This one was a regular NES grey cart. Anyone care to inform of what is going on here?

There are two different versions of Gauntlet for the NES, a licensed version and an unlicensed version.

I found the trivia on that Wikipedia page rather interesting...

The majority of tengen releases come in 2 different carts.

Is either version rarer than the other? Is one more sought after?

in my experience it seems the black versions are more common but don't sell for a dramatically lower price than the grey cart versions - maybe a few bucks difference.

interestingly i encounter a pretty high percentage of black tengen carts with damaged cart art. lesser quality decals i assume.

I personally would rather have a regular cart (gray cart) because they match the other games and look good on a shelf with the others. I think it's probably more rare too.
