RPGs for the all growed ups!
another tick for Panzer Dragoon Saga! this couldn't be attributed the fact that the RacketBoy community is notably Saturn biased? I will smile and say its not, Saga is just THAT good. From what I have played, I tend to agree.
neohx_7 - whenever I play Sailor Moon games, I fog up my glasses. Its hard to play when you cant see the TV.

Valkyrie Profile was made by Square.marurun wrote:If you really want a complex and "adult" (not XXX adult, you fools!) RPG you should actually avoid the Final Fantasy series altogether. While they try to deal with serious subjects the dialogue is usually cloying and annoying. Final Fantasy 6 (3) and 7 both feature characters who are near to stock stereotypes, and while there are mature story elements, the games usually devolve to the nonsensical. Because racing chocobos is so mature. Because the angst the characters feel is such a mature emotional response...
If you really want role-playing games that appeal to adult gamers you should probably stick to the niche RPGs that play fast and loose with genre conventions. Panzer Dragoon Saga is the best example I can think of this, but I've also heard very good things about Persona and Valkyrie Profile. I would stay away from Square. Fun, yes, but also VERY genre and, at the core, very immature.
Both Parasite Eves and Vargrant Story don't really fall into the category you talk about either.
Valkyrie Profile was developed by Tri-Ace and Published by Enix. Square did not unite with Enix until later. VP (The Original) has nothing to do with Square.Zork wrote:Valkyrie Profile was made by Square.

But I do think that PE1, PE2, and Vagrant Story belong in this thread. Very mature, serious games, though PE2 tends to slide closer to a Resident Evil game rather than RPG.
Where the hell are all the Planescape: Torment mentions? A forum search for "Planescape" yields 3 posts. THREE!! And one of them was just a "I need to play P:T sometime." C'mon now, I expected a gaming site whose slogan was "Gaming like it's 1999" would be all over 1999's RPG extraordinaire.

Maybe I'm just being harsh... I'm new here; maybe this site is just more console oriented, I don't know. What I do know is that Planescape: Torment is the answer to the thread-at-hand. Do you want to find out what can change the nature of a man? To be so wrapped up in the protagonist's quest for self-discovery that you'll unconsciously be trying to get into his mind and role-play him? Nevermind the incredible dialog and conversation paths (make sure you start out with lots of Wisdom) between your party members and NPCs. It's a veritable tour-de-force in both RPG gaming and even gaming literature.
Ok, got that out of my system. At least someone said Fallout or I would've went nuclear. I have a few other titles that might fit the bill, but I already played my ace and anything now would be like suggesting "24" to someone who just got done watching "The Wire."
Seriously, sorry about all the zeal. I don't know what came over me. I will say that I envy you people with your Panzer Dragoon Sagas. I've been wanting to play that for quite some time now, but I'm in short supply of Saturns and Sagas. Plus the Saturn emulation scene is still derisory--and add to the fact that SSF won't run on my beautiful processor.
[Edit: Wow, I didn't know this thread was so old. It was still on the first page. Didn't know traffic here was so slow...

Planescape is a PC RPG and PC games don't get quite as much love around here as console games. I only had a Mac in the 80s and 90s so I only seriously played the games available for it. I was aware of the blockbuster hits for Windows, but I'm still playing catch up with many of the worthy games that I missed. If I can find Planescape, I'll definately play it seeing that it garnered such great reviews.
I tried Planescape and the Fallouts recently, but I don't see how any human being could play a game so slow.Intangir wrote:Where the hell are all the Planescape: Torment mentions?
