Just got Ape Escape

If you don't have this amazing platformer for the PS1, then get it now! C'mon, whats better than catching cute little monkeys with sirens on their heads, trying to take over the universe?

When I was a kid I had to buy the DualShock controller cause it wouldn't work with the regular.

I still laugh every time I see the opening message that says to please insert a DualShock analog controller to play this game.

I have Ape Escape 3. I love the storyline concept: Stupid monkeys are making stupid television shows that are putting everyone into a mindless trance so that the world can be run by stupid monkeys. I never expected such a kiddy looking game to be so cynical, sarcastic, and misanthropic. I almost wrote this series off as 'just for kids', but it's a surprisingly funny and enjoyable game.

I remember playing the demo at the age of 6 at a cousins house. (Not knowing that it was Ape Escape.) I thought it was the greatest thing ever at the time. I tried to figure out what it was later on in life. Kinda hard to do without knowing the title. Just remembering pictures in my head.

I picked up a copy yesterday, started playing it, a couple minutes later after realizing what it was, a huge giddy smile stretched across my face.

That's exactly what happened to me.

Our local K-Mart had just gotten a PS2 demo unit (01'-02'ish) and I played the demos for REZ, Dark Cloud and Ico but never remembered their names. Years later I'm in a GameStop looking through the Used PS2 section when I came across REZ, one look at the back cover, and I had it at the register in an instant. Later on after some research I managed to find Dark Cloud and Ico as well.

Ape Escape comes close to one of my favorite games of all time. That game has such a universal charm. Monkeys make everything better. I need to try the sequels someday.
