Plus, the CRT will prolly make it look better since most LCDs are pretty subpar compared to an average cathode ray tube.
It's 2007 now. This statement doesn't hold true anymore. $200 can get you a beautiful LCD that beats the pants off of a 17inch CRT in every single area but response time.
Actually, I've found that, IMO, my wittle 13" CRT looks better than any LCD I've seen in action and it's from like 1993, with the exception of the half a grand ones or over, like LoD's or RB's. The picture still seems more vibrant, has deeper darks, and is overall much brighter. I mean most well made LCDs are good, close to CRTs, but I've never seen one like that for 200 bucks.
I definately agree... there is nothing that beats CRT so far in my opinion. There is that new technology being worked on that Racket posted about... but I've never seen it so I can't judge it. Outside of that... NOTHING beats the great detail, vibrance, true black and refresh rate of a freakin CRT!
Downside... to get 30" widescreen it would be so big it took over my entire desk and it would weigh so much it would break the glass.

None of that is true anymore. My LCD beats all the CRTs I've seen or owned in all areas but response time. And at 8ms, it doesn't even affect my performance in first person shooters. I just naturally suck at those.
No CRT could display text as sharp as this at 1280. No CRT handled colors as accurately or as strong as this. I turn the vibrancy meter up to "Low" in the nVidia panel and Half-Life 2's world almost resembled Wonka's candy garden. It was crazy. I'm tired of CRT monitors having trouble just representing true whites. They always put shades of green or blue in them, no matter how much I tweak the settings. You think you nailed it, and the next day the picture is totally different.

-_-. My Wonka comment was a joke. I'm referring the the change I experienced when upgrading to LCD. All my games were bland shades of grey and brown before. The difference was drastic.
thought of a solution
got a way we could check without plugging things in to the screen (i shop online)
started to make a list, if not could a mod/admin make a post requesting that people with the vga-cable post their screen model and how well it works.
Like I said, modifying the h-hold wire inside the vga box. But I'm not about to risk mine. Not unless I can get a schematic for the VGA box to determine which wire it could be. Then I'd feel comfortable testing the theory.
Hm...I just remembered that I could be having a similar problem with my LCD TV! Whenever I play GCN, Saturn, or PS2 on my tv, it almost always has a black border, something similar to what you guys are experiencing. Of course, I haven't found a solution, so it's not much help, now it just seems to be a problem with LCD displays in general.
