Metal Slug on other platforms

Post by RCBH928 »

hello
I am looking for advice, I hardly know this series but would love to play it.
But I am confused as I can play it in many different ways on 360, Wii, and Mame or maybe Dreamcast or PSX emulation.

What you think is my best option along with the controller, given that the original Neo-Geo and an arcade stick are not an option for me

your best bet is using MAME, and using some sort of usb controller or joystick

if not, a keyboard works fine

I own the Japanese Metal Slug for the Sega Saturn and I love it to pieces. It's a blast every time I play it, whether it's with a friend or all by myself. The best way for people without weird hardware, though (like 4MB cart equipped Saturns or Neo Geo AESes) would be Metal Slug Anthology for the Playstation 2.

You could use a Neo Cd emulator for the Dreamcast and burn a iso of the Neo Cd verisons. Not the best but it's possible.

What i can recomend is either the saturn verison or emulation on pc with a controller with similar button layout as the saturn one.

Ziggy587 said it. Metal Slug Anthology has all 7 releases in one game. A friend of mine has it for the wii. Its pretty good, but I don't know how it compares to the original console gameplay.

Yeah, in some (not all) games, there's a load time when you switch between characters in the character selection screen. It's really weird, and it also happens if you select a different character after a continue. Other than that, the ports appear to be flawless.

Doesn't it just need a 1MB cart on the Saturn?

the saturn version is good I recommend a 4mb cart with it. Its not cheap either. Also have emulated on my dc with an agetec stick which isn't bad either. Mame with an x arcade stick is ok. Anthology for psp is good (except for load times) but sucks on wii. You can download 1 and 2 on wii also and get yourself a replica neo geo stick for 70 bucks. Best way to go is get yourself an mvs mobo consolized and get the mvs carts :) or visit your local arcades mine all have it
