Yeah, I always had to play newer games at my friends' and cousins' houses. Getting a new console was awesome because I already knew a couple of games that I'd been dying to play, but couldn't because I didn't have the necessary hardware.LCDSCREEN wrote:Opening a new console is the greatest feeling know to man, it's always nice to know that with your purchase you've opened yourself up to a library of great new games. How do you feel when opening a new gaming console box?

When opening any new electronics purchase, I get flashbacks of the first time I opened my Genesis 1 box. That was the first console/electronic device that I purchased with my own money.
The smell of the plastic and metal, the crispness of all of the manuals, it just takes me back.

I've been through the ritual countless times, but the best was the Turbo Grafx CD system here in the states. That beast was packed in a MONSTER sized box. I always make sure that the original plastic bags and twist ties get thrown back in the box before storing. Which i'll admit is stupid, as I've never seen a market for a system in box with "all original bags and twist ties!"

xm I'm curious. could you please post some pictures of the box for us to see. Since the PS3 comes in a huge box, I'm curious how big your turbo grafx cd is

I've never bought a new console in my life. Ever.

Here you go. PS3 box in the top right, Turbo CD on the left. This pic is going in the Game Room forum when I get my act together.ZeroAX wrote:shallowgamer wrote:I've been through the ritual countless times, but the best was the Turbo Grafx CD system here in the states. Re: How do you feel when opening a new gaming console box?
First console I ever opened new-in-box was a Sega Genesis Model 2 with the 6-Pak pack-in (the greatest thing known to gaming-n00b kind), then after that it was a new-in-box Sega Dreamcast on 9/9/99 (so proud). I'm not sure which was greater. With the first, I had no idea what I was getting myself into - it was more after I had a go at Sonic the Hedgehog that I was just stupefied. I LOVED IT. There's a power to that game that is so undeniable to me now. It is UTTER NOSTALGIA... so thick that I can EAT IT. I miss that box! I used to sit next to it and write down all the games on the side of the box that I wanted in my (probably adorable) five-year-old hand-writing: "Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Streets of Rage 2, Ecco the Dolphin, Vectorman, Shinobi III...". But I don't know if that's better than the unboxing of the Sega Dreamcast... I knew EXACTLY what I was getting into with that system. It was revenge for all the little brats who made fun of me for having a Saturn when they had PlayStation's and Nintendo 64's. They got the last laugh, of course, but I laughed the loudest. "ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-EIGHT BITS, SUCKAH'S!". I still own the box to that one, with the blurry Dreamcast on it. God, the excitement! And I couldn't stop buying games for the damn thing! First Sonic Adventure, then Soul Calibur, then Power Stone, then House of the Dead 2 with a light-gun... then I had to recoup my funds, but you get the idea. All the rest of my systems have been purchased used, unfortunately.

It's comparable to bringing home a new girl for the first time. There is a bit of mystery and excitement, but you have to conceal both. The experienced is heightened if it's her place. More mystery.
