Some characters have Japanese names with Brazilian surnames, but some just have plain funny surnames, like the series protagonist Michiko Malandro. If you told someone that was your name, you would just be laughed at. The city names are funny as well (for example, Cidade de Batata, which means, uh, Potato City).

There are a few instances of bad Portuguese on the series too, but overall letters, signs and newspapers are written in good, completely intelligible Portuguese.
You read the "30 days of night: Juarez" comic book and have a good laugh with that free-online-translator spanish they use from time to time ;)

I don't know why both americans and japanese seem to be SO lazy for getting just a tiny bit of information about the place they're talking about... I mean come on, you guys seen Mission Impossible 2? They mixed Sevilla's holy week (easter) with Valencia's fallas in the same day (not only they're different dates but of course different cities). Paris with Eiffel tower or Rome with the coliseum are easily recognizable, huh? ;) But when you're talking about Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Peru... or any latinamerican country, just throw everything you've ever heard into the mix and it's supposed to work (if the mix is a movie or a TV series, anyway :P)

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystall Skull... oh my. "That was Quechua, I learned it with Pancho Villa"...
