Phone won't work

Post by UBERTRON777 »

So I was talking on my cordless phone during a thunderstorm and the power went off and my phone cut off. Afterward, when the power came back on, my phone stopped working. I can dial a phone number in but it never gives me the dial tone, it is completely silent. Do you guys have any solutions?

This may sound like a stupid question, but did you put the phone back on the main base for a minute or 2? I know that with some phones the handset must reset its connection to the base after losing power.

Make sure the base is working. Cordless phones won't work without the base being switched on, it's what is plugged into the telephone line after all. My guess is that the lightning caused a power surge and blew the base unit.

I've tried unplugging and replugging my phone base in every conceivable way and I have also tried taking out the batteries and reinserting them. Nothing seems to work. I'm not sure if getting a new phone would work either because both the base and phones appear fine and they seem to work in every respect besides receiving or making telephone calls. Needless to say, I'm pretty confused and the fact that I don't own a cell phone augments the inconvenience.

if you have an older phone that doesn't require power try plugging that in just to see if there is a dial tone on your phone line. maybe it isnt the phone but your phone line.

If none of the suggestions work, this is another vote for the phone being shot. I've had thunderstorms kill phones before, among many other things.
