Seven months. However, most of it was cause I obsessed over little details no one would ever see. I also had to learn a lot as I went, so that added to the hour count, too.

when you say seven months, how many hours did you put in to this in an average week. Im taking a media degree, and would be interested in doing something like this in my final year

Simple answer: six hours a week.

Not simple answer: there's various factors that led me to accomplish more or less at times (like motivation, computer issues, losing six days of progress one time). March '09 to May '09 was really the time I kept track of how much time I spent, so I don't know about before. Then again, I wasn't really doing this for a class or anything, so it's not like I had a sanctioned block of time dedicated to working on it; if you were doing something like this for a class you might have more time. On the other hand, I had been learning 3D stuff since 2005, so I was already at an intermediate-ish skill level by the time I started this. The amount of hands on time you've already had with 3D animation would probably factor in as well.
