Has anyone gotten a chance to play Cross Edge for the PS3 yet? The reviews are pretty bad, but I know that reviewers don't necessarily put the time into games like this that they need.
Would anyone who's played it recommend to a fellow JRPG fan?

Re: Has anyone played Cross Edge yet?
I picked it up last Friday but haven't had a chance to play it yet.
Also there's a bit of controversy over IGN's review, as apparently the reviewer only put about three hours into the game before writing the review and leaving for E3, so I'd be moe inclined to trust Playstation Magazine and Famitsu's reviews both of which called the game an average RPG.

I bought this day one and have been playing it. The combat system can be a bit complex and it does have a bit of a steep learning curve but I am about 3 hours in and I'm enjoying it. The cross world cast is pretty entertaining. Once you get past the daunting combo system and what not its a pretty enjoyable game. Id recommend it to a Jrpg fan.
Re: Has anyone played Cross Edge yet?
Yes, the combat system is fairly involved. You quickly discover that it can make more sense to build up AP for an all out massive attack that wipes out half the enemy force.
Also, hard is balls hard. I'm still in the first area and I've already found the need to grind, thanks to the insanity that is hard mode. I might end up restarting if I get blocked on the next boss, since I'm still at the beginning.
So far my only real complaint has been a few too many fights with a forced character. It breaks the dynamic of the team I work with.

I think I will rent it on GameFly and give it a try regardless of bad reviews...

Some of my favorite games are games that have really bad reviews. For example, a lot of magazines gave Pocket Fighter for the PSX really bad scores, and I think GameSpot gave it a 3.5 out of 10. Regardless of that, the game is just fucking fun, and anyone who can't see that is too hung up on serious play.Dakinggamer87 wrote:I think I will rent it on GameFly and give it a try regardless of bad reviews...
Cross Edge is just not the type of game that is going to get a good review. It's far too niche - but if you are in that niche, then it should suit you just fine.
