I believe the Nintendo 64 port of Resident Evil 2 is the best looking. The Dreamcast version's nice because it included so much of the unlockables featured in the PC version, with a little bit more. I couldn't tell you about Resident Evil 3 though.

Just did a little research and it appears that the Gamecube releases were a port of the PSX version with higher resolution backgrounds, in terms of content, nearly identical to the PSOne release, the Dreamcast versions however, are a direct port of the PC releases which have more content.
Ports

There have been three ports of Nemesis since the initial PlayStation version for the following platforms: Sega Dreamcast, PC and Nintendo GameCube. The PC and Dreamcast versions allow the player to choose Jill's outfit in the main game right from the start without going to the boutique. There are two additional outfits not in the PlayStation version. The "Operation: Mad Jackal" minigame is also available right from the start, with the added function of posting scores online on Capcom's official website (this feature has since been discontinued). The Dreamcast version included selectable outfits from the start with new additions, also featuring the added benefit of allowing players to view their character's current health via a VMU. The GameCube version is a direct port of the PlayStation version with no added features other than an increased framerate for FMV scenes and smoother-looking character models.
Other platforms

Like the original game, Resident Evil 2 was released on other platforms after its initial success on the PlayStation. The first of these ports was a PC version titled Resident Evil 2 Platinum in 1999. It features all the additions from the Dual Shock Version and added a new gallery mode featuring illustrations, renders and in-game character models, as well as a new Hard difficulty setting for the main game. The Sega Dreamcast version, released the same year, features these additions, along with the added benefit of viewing the character's health in a VMU.
The Nintendo GameCube version, released in 2003, is identical to the PlayStation's Dual Shock Version in terms of content, featuring only a minimal set of improvements such as skippable cut scenes and a higher frame rate for the game's FMV sequences.

Alright, because I couldn't believe my eyes. Before making this topic, I tried Googling and even Youtubeing these games to see if there was any difference at all, and I thought it must of been a mistake.

Guess not.

Why remake the first than repackage 2 and 3? What's the point? It's one thing to port a game to several systems, it's another to do it several years later. Anyways thanks for the info, won't bother picking them up.

It's called a business deal. Nintendo wanted the entire RE series on the gamecube. Remaking the entire series wasn't feasible, so they accepted a few quick ports to accompany the two remakes and the one new entry.

Further, while I do consider RE2 and RE3 on GC to be the best versions, the small dpad on GC negates this fact. It just sucks for RE games in general. If you don't have an adapter to use another kind of controller here, avoid them. It's the only flaw with the GC pad as far as I'm concerned.

I played RE 2 way back when it first came out on the PS1, but never got into it at the time. I suppose I couldn't appreciate it for what it was and now I'm older and wiser  . Now that I want to get back into the series, I'd like some guidance to get the best possible experience.

So it sounds like if people were to recommend the best versions of each game, it would be as follows:

RE Zero: GC (obviously)
RE 1: GC (due to remake)
RE 2: PS1 (dual shock edition)
RE 3: PS1
RE 4: PS2 or Wii
RE C:VX: PS2

This would take into account cost to obtain, controls, and graphics. Let me know if you have other ideas.
NES | SNES | Genesis | PSOne | Saturn | N64 | Dreamcast | Gamecube | XBox | PS2 Phat w/HDLoader | PS3 Slim| Wii
GBA SP | PSP-1000 | WiFi-iPad 16GB(Is this a game system?) | Modded PS1 | PS Vita 3G

just get the whole series on the gamecube.

Thanks for your help.

I thought the PS2 version of RE 4 added some content, maybe I'm wrong... I would agree that getting the collection on GC would look nicer when sitting on a shelf, but the controls for the Gamecube are turning me away from RE 2, 3, 4 and C:VX. The Gamecube versions are also much more expensive, which might seal the deal for me.
